Sizing frustration

I received my newly purchased utilikilt from the Geoffrey company, through e-bay, and was disappointed to discover that it was too small. I have a "34 waist for trousers, and have used that size to good effect before. My last purchase from UTKilts was a "34, but it felt a bit snug, so I told Geoffrey to send a "36, but it turned out to be small. Now I have to go through the difficulty of exchanging it for a size bigger (I measured around my wast at the navel like I should have the first time, but I thought since the last purchase of "34 fit okay, then "36 should have also). I wonder if sizing works differently if one is ordering from a U.S. company as opposed t outside the U.S.

Utilikilts are 4" larger than your pants size. So, you'd need a 38. I used to work for them a few years ago.

How about a link to what you bought? I think I found what you bought and if I am correct, you bought a standard Woodtex kilt. They usually run about right size wise but are sometimes a little snug. I normally wear a size 50 pants but a size 50 Woodtex is a little too snug for me. The 52 fits great and I wear it where I normally would wear my pants.

There is no difference in measuring. Inches are inches and centimeters are centimeters. From what I am reading is that you measured but sent him the measurement of 36" anyways.

So the only thing would be what was the actual measurement that you took?

I actually measured after the kilt arrived and I found it to be too small. The size I ordered was based on previous purchases.

I had the same experience. The kilt is a 38" waist, same as all my other kilts, and that's OK, but the hips are too narrow. The buckles are on the last eyelets and there's a snap that just won't reach.

Given the nuisance of shipping something back to Pakistan for exchange, and since I can wear it, I kept the kilt. But this points up one disadvantage of purchasing directly from overseas.

I'm considering buying a kilt on eBay, possibly from Geoffrey. I'm confused by this thread - was it the trousers or the kilt that was not sized correctly? So can you be quite clear about this for me: what was the measurement of the size 38 kilt by Geoffrey?

I usually wear size 36 trousers but a size 38 kilt. My hips are 40" around, with a 7" fall.

The Geoffrey is clearly marked size 38, and it's fine in the waist but about two inches too tight in the hips. So it seems they sewed both the waist and the hips to be 38 inches.

There's enough slack in the apron to make up most of the difference, but there is one snap at hip level that just won't reach, leaving the post visible.

So three possible recommendations are:

1. Buy the kilt 2" larger than usual.
2. Buy the kilt to match your hip size.
3. Send your waist, hip, and fall measurements to Geoffrey and ask them what size to buy in the style you want.

#3, of course, is probably the best.

The happy ending is that the returned proper size arrived in time for a hiking trip my wife and I were planning. The lesson learned is to order one's size carefully. The cost of the return postage was quite a lot.

Caultron is right about the sizing, Actually trouser size don't translate to kilt sizes exactly, best way it to measure the waist where you are actually planing to wear the kilt actually.
we always encourage buyers to send us the actual size of waist, length and Drop length or fall, so the fitting is appropriate.
