Happy celebrations for the U.S. members
Happy celebrations for the U.S. members
To all those in that country just south of the Canadian border, Happy 4th of July. To celebrate, I revved up my 1874 Mason & Hamlin and let rip with "America the Beautiful"

It is also my granddaughter's ninth birthday. And beautiful she is too. She stayed with us last night and I got a nice hug and kiss off her this morning. We were both wearing skirts.
As for America I concur and wish them well in their celebrations. I wish that we still had as much patriotism as they do have. We are coming round to their way of thinking in one way. In Orlando airport a few years ago I saw a banner saying "Welcome to America - now speak English!". We are starting to realise that we cannot continue to cater for so many different languages and to claim benefits you need to claim in English.

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Why thank you, my good sir. There are many in this great land who appreciate your kind words. Though there are also many, to many for my liking, who would lean the other way, towards apathy. I find it funny and quite ironic that such felicitations should come from members of the very empire against which we rebelled, and the celebration of this date commemorates, instead of those from the new nation formed from it. And for that I do thank you.
And regarding that rebellion, I honestly believe that our nations and people are stronger as cousins than we ever were as brothers.

We had a good time on the 4th. I took the kids swimming for the afternoon at the local pool. Later on in the evening we went to In-N-Out for burgers, then to fireworks, then topped it off with Cold Stone Creamery (ice cream). All while wearing a kilt (except for the swimming part, obviously). If anybody noticed the kilt they didn't make it known to me. Of course it wasn't one of my more brightly colored kilts, just a very dark color set, and of light wool so as to not be as hot (it was 114 on Thursday). All in all it was a pretty good day.
And the icing on the cake was this great post from our friends over seas wishing us a happy b-day.

I've just noticed that we have a new record for most visitors to the Cafe at the same time. It was at 6.43 a.m. on 5 July. As the site runs on GMT (UK winter time), that was 11.43pm on 4 July in California, and 2.43am in New York. Does this mean that our American members like to round off their Independence Day celebrations by ... er ... um ... what? I can't see any connection!
Any theories?

Keep on skirting,
