How about this for a unisex or male skirt?

I love this style of skirt (although I'd prefer a khaki/cargo/cotton drill material to denim but that's just me). I think it's a nice gender neutral style that we could totally pull off no problems. Thoughts?

Yes, I like the range on Dungareesonline and I did, a week ago, look long and hard at that skirt, however I don't personally like the pockets as they are too small, awkward and restrictive. I much prefer a deep angled side pocket as seen in traditional trousers; I think other skirts in their line have these. What i DO like in these skirts is the fact that they widen enough at the hem to be able to walk in without needing that sometimes annoying walking slit.

I like the type of skirt, however I buy them from Style J (www.denimskirts.com) who do similar, with the flys on the right side and pockets which are at least iPhone sized. Must admit that in public I stick to the Midas skirts though, I need the mental 'crutch' of a skirt that was made for a man, stupid I know.

I have several that are very similar to this one - they're rugged, warm, have pockets, and are comfortable.

I added lace to the hems of a couple - just for the joy of it!

Very nice attitude! I know what you mean.

Zorba, I was intrigued with the website mentioned in your signature; it's wonderful. And I enjoyed reading your "Basic Skirtsmanship" article. Have a great Twenty Thirteen.

Thanx for your kind words. I'm seeing a LOT of hits in my referrer logs from this thread!

The skirts we wear for Belly Dancing are not trivial to deal with at times! Right now, I'm petticoat shopping - I'm in a troupe that is going to do a Gothic-Tribal Fusion Vampire dance/skit thing - We'll all be in reasonably full crushed velvet skirts with petticoats. As I don't know a darn thing about petticoats, I'm investigating alternatives as it may prove impossible to find one off the rack that will work for me. My smaller dance sisters won't have nearly the trouble, but I'm needing one 36 inches long...

Zorba, I have been spending time in your very professional and impressive website and, well, I'm blown away! Not only is Basic Skirtsmanship well wrought but I found myself nodding in agreement at your "rant".

I second that. I found Zorba's website riveting and very professional. The costumes and dance movements are mind-blowing, too.

Give Historical Emporium a look. I got some of my long skirts there as well as my two petticoats (which are a boon when wearing long skirts).

You have an impressive and nicely designed website there.

Interesting indeed. I too am a dancer and deplore the way so many men reject the activity.

I could not help noticing that if you replaced "belly dancing" with "skirt wearing" throughout the text, the whole set of arguments would have fitted well on a men's skirt page.

That's probably true enough - but keep in mind that I'm only addressing Belly Dance skirts which are only a small subset of all skirts - PLUS - aren't particularly practical for everyday wear; and thus many of the tips involved wouldn't necessarily apply to, say, the skirt at the top of this thread for instance. But I do state therein that some tips would apply to any skirt - take what works, and leave the rest behind!

And THANK YOU everyone for your kind words about my site...

That sums it up well I think. You could replace the same words with a million other things. It's all about some people's unfortunate attitudes.
