Hello folks

[I've cross-posted this from the "Skirts for Men" forum to here.]

I'm 'venting steam' here, so take this post for what it's worth

It would be great if the New Registered Users would stop and think
about what they are doing instead of arbitrarily posting junk or
once they register on the forum.

I would like to see our membership grow, but I have a hard time
letting NRU's post anything when it has nothing to do with the
tenants of this forum.

If I wanted to see 'porn', I'ld find it myself. If I wanted to see
running shoes, stop smoking info, NFL player items, I'ld look
for them. I/We don't need this kind of 'stuff' posted at Skirt Cafe'.

What I want to see is men(and women) supporting Skirts For Men,
and kilts, to be worn on a daily basis. Kilts are a start but we need
more people out there "putting their money where there mouth is".

'We' need other people to realize what restrictions Society has placed
on men, in the 'Western Culture', and do what we can to change/eliminate
these 'restrictions', when it comes to clothing choices.

Men need to be able to "Think outside the box" instead of
wearing the dark/drab "Penguin Suits" in order to be successful.
A $500.00 Armani suit has the same style, and looks the same
as a suit from J. C. Penny's which may only cost $150.00.

So, how about a 4 piece suit
Jacket, Vest, Trousers and a box-pleat or kilted skirt would be fantastic
This would give men more options thus equalizing fashion styles between
men and women

OK, OK - I've vented on two subjects (I can't count )

Not to be a nitpicker, but an Armani suit is more likely to be $5000 than $500, and as someone who has a couple of very high quality suits (one is an Armani), the fabric, the fit, the quality of tailoring, the detailing are all worth it (if you are into those kinds of things). Now I don't know if I could tell a $500 Tommy Hilfiger suit from something off the rack at Pennys for $150.

To use an analogy, I'm not sure there's all that much difference between a Camry and a Corolla, but the difference between a Lamborghini and a Corolla is, I think, noticeable.

All good points to make. For having such powerful minds people, as a species, sure do things illogically. On a mechanically functioning level we've made incredible advances. Emotionally we haven't changed much over millennium. Overcoming the self-imposed fear thing men have for other's perceptions is the biggest hold-up to advancing male fashion. If we could break through that we would be advanced on both sides of our brains.

100% of these "name brand" bargains touted by (very short lived) new members are counterfeit items, which puts the purchaser into a grey legal area in any case. Naivety is no excuse before the law. Of course we are, on this forum, too smart to be taken in--aren't we?

Oddly enough I bought a Georgio Armani three-piece Tuxedo on ebay a couple of years ago for £10. Brand new, unworn. Said to have cost around £400, black with maroon trimmings - pretty snazzy. It was meant for the best man at a wedding but the bride changed her mind and required all the men involved to wear kilts instead! It still hangs in my wardrobe after having the trousers taken up a notch, and is still unworn as I put on some weight before I got a chance to use it! Although the waistcoat is too tight, I suppose the jacket could be shortened to marry up with a kilt for that special 007 type dinner engagement, but finding a black kilt of the same material would be almost impossible. I wonder if Armani would consider making a made to measure kilt to match the jacket?

Update: As Sport Kilt made me a 'bespoke' Team Kilt a couple of years ago with red, white and blue inserts in the pleats (for a particularly patriotic occasion) I thought I'd go along the same route and put in an order for one made with maroon inserts to go with the above dinner jacket. I've sent off the maroon material which I sourced locally. The black material of the Team Kilt is a close enough match to the jacket to make it look like a 'suit'. If it works it should make a neat kilted dinner/dance outfit.

Have you ever bought a suit with a spare pair of trousers because the trousers wear out faster than the jacket? The ladies can of course go for one skirt and one pair of trousers. A woman in my office has done just that and she wears both combinations. So it's not a new idea, just another thing that should (for equality, as you say) be available for men. (I suppose it is already, if you go to a tailor instead of an off-the-peg retailer!)

Hi skirtyscot,

Never thought of getting a box-pleat skirt to go along with the trousers when having a suit made. I have teamed up a white box-pleat skirt with a spare suit jacket, black shirt, white tie and thick black tights. Even my wife says the combination looks good. I don't need to buy a suit at the moment but should I need to then I would consider it. The only thing that might put me off is how much I would be paying for the skirt. Bearing in mind my £5 rule it would then be the most expensive skirt in my wardrobe.
