Skirt Source
Skirt Source
Found an unsuspecting source of skirts. A western ranchwear store that sells the Carhartt brand of work and play clothing for men and women has skirts on clearance. I suspect this might be the case at more than one of these type of stores. I picked up a size 18 cargo skirt about 17" long, that fits reasonable well, slightly restrictive in the stride, pockets but small and very durable. On Sale for $19.99.
Skirt Sources - Always useful to know
It is very useful to know where a man can get realistically priced skirts or kilts. Looking at the Utilikilt site, they are superb but a nice price too. Here in the UK, it is not easy, but most of mine came from ASDA, thats the British supermarket chain owned by WalMart, which I dislike but needs must. These were all very reasonably priced, between £8 - $12 - to £15, about $22.
I also wear stockings, again these are generally basic lines from several supermarkets and they do fit, just. My suspender belt is from Evans, a womens 'outsize' store, again reasonably priced at £10, about $16.
So firstly pepsie1, please advise the seller, and is there a website link? I am communicating with an American company, G Lieberman, about stockings intended for men. Again thanks to a SkirtCafe member.
I have now been wearing my skirts nearly everyday over the summer, and I am so pleased I have done so. I receive very few comments, the odd hard look, I just look back!
It is very comfortable, the only irritation is having to re-adjust undergarments, but even that can be achieved easily in the larger space of an accessible loo (bathroom to you people over there in the US - our bathrooms are at home and have baths).
So it could be very helpful if we can set up a 'Useful suppliers' Forum Thread to share this information. One post said he had 50+ skirts, oh to have such a choice.
I personally have concluded that I am not seen as being too odd, (well a bit! - I prefer eccentric) as my skirts are all plain, straight or A line, but a couple are more flared and look like a kilt without pleats, and either black or dark brown. I have two fawn coloured, but I tend to wear these at home. I then wear a plain man's shirt, or occasionally a women's T-shirt or blouse, and a sweater, sweatshirt, cardigan, jacket or anorak. Stockings are light coloured but clearly visible, and they are quite warm!
If you are hesitating about wearing a skirt out, keep it simple and go for it. Henri x

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Re: Skirt Source
I have had great success on Ebay. Now and then I get one that that isn't as nice as the description, but that is rare. I have also sold some of my surplus kilts and skirts there. Last year I sold a McGregor kilt I had since 1971. It was a custom job and very nice. Back in the day I paid about $150 for it, and sold it for the same price 40 years later.

Same here. The trick is to ask detailed questions, and if she doesn't answer, don't bid! (Not that I always follow my own advice!)BobM wrote:I have had great success on Ebay. Now and then I get one that that isn't as nice as the description, but that is rare.

Re: Skirt Source
I don't understand the difficulty. There are thousands of shops and web sites that sell skirts. You pick what you like and order it. Or if you are in a shop you take it to the counter and pay for it. Many of us also try it on first, without any problems (I always ask first). I spend most of my time in skirts and have 1000. Only one male kilt, which I can't wear as my legs are shaved - that might look OK in shorts but less so in a kilt.

Re: Skirt Source
1000? Really? How long have you been collecting then and how do you find room to store them all?

Re: Skirt Source
Yep. 1000. My cataloguing system only goes up to 999 and I have decided not to develop it beyond that. It is actually around 1003 at the moment so I have to get rid of 4 old skirts. I have a lockable walk in wardrobe in my bedroom and a double lockable wardrobe in my study. The rest are in the loft. I have been accumulating this collection for over 30 years which works out at only a few a month. Around a third of these have been worn in public and all of them have been worn at home. They range from cheapo stuff to designer, most bought in sales and most tried on before purchase (usually when wearing a skirt to shop). I really do not regard skirt wearing as a big deal, and the same seems to apply to those I meet skirted.
Re: Skirt Source
You have, I think, blown just about everyone else here out of the water with that accumulation. And to think that I thought I'd have to pull back on 61, sorry, 62 with a "Liz Claiborne" long denim coming from U.S.A. via fleabay.rivegauche wrote:Yep. 1000. Re: Skirt Source
But do they all fit ?!?
No wonder we can't find skirts - he is hoarding-em all.
If this was Texas we would "get a rope" !
Anywhere else we wouldn't be playing with a MasterCard
but having a murder of sorts on Masterpiece Theatre !
Imagine having a thousand skirts - that is wearing three
different outfits each day of the year with a few left over
for wardrobe malfunctions.

Re: Skirt Source
I certainly have no notion what I would do with a thousand skirts - or a thousand of any other article of clothing for that matter. I'm afraid, though, that I must pick upon your calculations. A thousand is somewhat /less/ than three per day - by about 95 3/4 for the year, or /just/ over 1/4 of a skirt shy per day.rma wrote:Imagine having a thousand skirts - that is wearing three

Re: Skirt Source
Some people are lucky enough to have the space to store their goods. I have not!
Kilts take up a lot of space and fill one of my tiny cupboards; the skirts pack together better, and half fill another, leaving some space to hang shirts. I have come to the conclusion that if I want to buy any more, I'll have to get rid of a few items first.
I'm not competing with anyone (Hamish with over 100 kilts, for example, or with you, Rivegauche). I'll have to get a better job and a much bigger home first.
