My long skirt

I thought I'd share this shot of my long skirt. It had a pattern of fish and seashells on a blue backround. I tried to dye it a solid blue but it didn't quite work. I found it at the local Goodwill.
It took some getting used to because of the length. After almost breaking my neck on the stairs, I learned to lift the hem.
It's also very light weight and thin. I have to wear something under it on sunny days.

The older I get the more length I like. Knee length or a little more is still nice, but I've got a couple dozen short skirts that will never see the light of day again. At least not on me. I am waiting for my latest Ebay purchase: a tiered denim skirt at 38". I'll probably shorten it a little, but not much. I have it in mind for winter here in the mountains.

One of the things that makes this writer positively bristle is the assertion that a class of garment (pick one of many) is not "appropriate" on folks above a "certain age"; I believe it's much more down to body-type and one's own poise and confidence. I've seen lithe little twenty-somethings in miniskirts that have looked horrible and 50+ women in them that are stunning -- yet the prevailling wisdom is, "no miniskirts above the age of 35". I call "BS" on the prevailling wisdom.

Now, length has its advantages in that there's more one can do with a long skirt than one can with a tiny little number. Length and layering are great in the winter months and are warmer by far than trousers; I wish I'd known this when I was still commuting by rail and sometimes had 20- or 30- minute waits on exposed platforms in sub-freezing windy weather! If I still had to do that I'd look into some very heavy quilted petticoats. The drawback is primarily that they're very hot in the summer months -- which is what the shorter skirts are best for.

Nobody made it, and I most certainly was not accusing anybody of doing so. If it was so taken, you have my apologies.

However, it seems to be a pervasive notion and one that should be approaced on a personal basis.

Just think of that next time you hear somebody extolling the virtues of democracy; just because a lot of people think something does not make it right.

I still hold with Ambrose Bierce's definition of democracy: "The tyranny of the majority over the minority".

We gotta get together sometime before the snow flies... we have a couple of nice festivals coming here, the Greek Festival over Labor Day and the Italian Festival Oct 6/7. There's also the Ren Festival with a Highland them that same Oct weekend... all good changes to meet up.

A meetup would be nice. I'll bet we've seen each other in passing. I've been over to the Irish festival a few times. And I go to the Renn fest every year during the theme weekend. Also the Celtic fest in Dayton.
