Skirts at work

Post by dragonslain »

About a month ago I started a new job. My last job had a very casual dress code but had the gender appropriate clause. I could still wear utilikilts because it was marketed as men's wear.

At this new job the dress code is very casual. Ive worn o utilIkilt with out issue. I emailed my boss to ask her the specifics of the dress code. And at first I got the it's very casual just nothing that promote violence or is sexual or profane.

I then responded with what about males wear items that are traditionally considered female garments. The response was wear what you Like as long as you are appropriately covered and does not depict violence sex or profanity.

So today I thought I would give it a go. I'm wearing a grey tee a slightly above he knee demon skirt. Black capree footless tights and black work boots.

Hopefully this falls into "appropriately covered"

Hope all goes well at your work. I don't see any problem in your choice of clothing. :) 8)

Might surprise a few of your work mates though....

Good on you and good for the management team and their approach to dress code! :D

Well done! How did it go?

They are somewhat less relaxed about that sort of thing at my work, as you can tell from my "My Dress Down Friday" thread in Personal Stories. However it's all gone quiet and I am hoping they have decided that it's OK in moderation.

Not a chance at my work place.
While the dress code is very casual a guy in a skirt would never pass code.

Good to hear that dragonslain!

Was that the only comment you overheard? Was it in any way obvious whether people were either avoiding contact or having more contact than usual?

Yeah that was the only comment. I was on my way back into the office from the break rooms free lunch and there was a small group of people behind me. A girl in the group made a comment. Her comment was more negative about a person of size wearIng my outfit rather than I was a guy.

As far as work went. It was a normal day. Did have people avoiding and making excuses to see me

Now that's a dress code I wish everyone had!

I'd suggest to not push the boundaries too fast. Just bit by bit over time. You are the same person inside, and the novelty will fade. What's important is that you are a quality person who does quality work and THAT is what people will primarily associate with you... your choice of clothing will be a secondary facet of your personality.

And, that inner feeling of happiness and confidence that comes when you wear a skirt will perhaps increase your productivity, focus, creativeness, or whatever!
When I heard about skirting, I jumped in with both feet!

But that comment can apply to anyone.

I am a larger person and when I look at some of the outfits in the "KingSize Direct" catalog and think to myself "there is no way anyone would look good in that". Yet go to a mall and you will see that there are people that do not own a full length mirror.

From what you described that you wore, the only thing that I wouldn't have worn would be the tights and maybe different shoes because I am not a big fan of boots.

Capri tights, in my eyes, don't look good on anyone.

I wore my new UK to a squadron picnic yesterday.
Normal duty-day is 7am to 4pm. Picnic started at 1.
I did not get a lot of positive comments at all. Many talked to me face to face and did not even notice the UK.
All in all it was something else.

Somehow these two words do not go together. I am struggling to picture it - "Pass the sandwiches, wing commander!"
