The Olympics..
It was good to see many of the visiting nations' men wearing their national robes and skirts rather than going for the default jacket-and-trousers.
Re: The Olympics..
I agree. It was nice to see so many (mostly Pacific) nations' men in traditional unbifurcated attire. I was wistfully hoping that the Scots might show up in kilts, but they were all subsumed in the UK team with their ghastly white long shorts and glittering gold bits.

Yes! I spotted 5 or 6 nations where the men had skirts - American Samoa and Togo to name two.straightfairy wrote:It was good to see many of the visiting nations' men wearing their national robes and skirts rather than going for the default jacket-and-trousers.

Was watching it with the family, and the American Samoans and all other enlightened men got the same sort of comment from Son 2: "Those weird guys are wearing skirts", that sort of thing.
Was good to see those nations wearing skirted garb anyway.

Have you tried the BBC i-player on bbc.co .uk? The entire ceremony is on there, all 4 hours plus of it. Access from foreign parts is somehow restricted, but maybe they let you see this one, in a spirit of internationalism. I'd start watching about 2hrs 30 mins in.
Keep on skirting,

I'm afraid the BBC is banned by the IOC from showing this outside of the UK. Britain no longer appears to rule the (air) waves....

So the moniker "The Censorship Games" is accurate after all. Nice. I just lost interest in it.renesm1 wrote:I'm afraid the BBC is banned by the IOC from showing this outside of the UK. Britain no longer appears to rule the (air) waves....

Re: The Olympics..
Anyone see the Beach Volleyball tonight? Exciting men's game between Spain and USA. (USA won in a very close game)
Anyway, at that match the TV cameras kept returning to an enthusiastic Spanish fan at the front of the stands - I'm sure he was wearing a white dress with red spots! Anyone else see that?
