Brighton Naked Bike Ride and kilts

Post by Grott »

Took part in the Brighton (UK) Naked Bike Ride yesterday - Travelled there in a black skirt, (It is interesting riding a bike in a skirt.)

And while I was waiting to get undressed - ( it was very cold) - I was approached by a gentleman who politely asked where I got my "Kilt" from.

I explained that it was a skirt but I had picked it up as I thought it looked Masculine. we had a very brief chat and he did give me his name on here.
But with all the excitement of the ride - I have forgotten it.

Well to that gentleman, if he reads this - it was good meeting you.

Hi Grott, I was the "gent" who spoke to you yesterday. I enjoyed our brief chat, but I've forgotten the details of where you got your skirt from. I liked the look of it because, as you say its fairly masculine design.

I also meant to ask how you got on riding in it to the event, obviously not an issue for the ride itself ! My limited attempts to cycle in skirts / kilts to date haven't worked well.

Hope to perhaps see you there again next year, when we must be due for some better weather after two poor years !

Grott/Johnb
Good to hear of other meetups "in the wild"
I too have cycled in a skirt a few times - tried several from a short mini-skirt (not very good) but have settled for a 17" khaki cargo skirt with small splits at the site. Comfortable and with the splits, easy to get on and off without underwear exposure. I posted a couple of pics on this site some time ago ...

We also have a naked bike ride in Edinburgh - but here you get arrested if you are actually naked. :? A g-string or thong is OK but not nudity apparently :( :( So I have never entered it (though I would like to) ... :P

Naked bike ride? En masse? WHY? Even if it's in a good cuase, it's a bit extreme!

I have cycled in a sports skirt and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it stayed down perfectly. I had expected it to fly up and expose my undergarments!
Keep on skirting,

HI Johnb - yes it was great chatting to you too. The skirt I was wearing I got from Roman Originals - in one of their sales for a fiver I think.
It is just a case of having the confidence to go around the sales and look for masculine skirts.
Charity Shops are also a good place to pick up good skirts. I have a dozen Kilts and a couple of Dozen skirts.

I have never had any problems trying on skirts in shops - their only real interest is in selling.

I either get my kilts from http://www.mytartan.com they do a fair casual kilt for £50 or I get them from ebay but the quality can be quite variable.

Riding a bike in a skirt can be risky - especially as I am commando - but I find the one that I was wearing (just above the knee) works OK. It is flexible enough to hang between the legs but stiff enough to not get blown up. Just a bit of trial and error really.

And Skirtyscot - the ride is protesting about how vulnerable Cyclists are on the road - they are in effect naked as they don't have the protection of a steel case - So that is why it is ridden naked to make the point - it is also a protest about oil and car usage - plus a statement on body image and how it is seen by the press and society. have a look at http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/uk/
I also did the London Bike ride the day before.

All the best

Roger
