Ran a bunch of errands today wearing this:

Image

Had to go visit a vacuum cleaner shop for some bags after getting some gas for the car. Also visited a sub sandwich shop for lunch, headed over to Seattle to check out some analog photography gear at a camera shop, dropped by an auto machine shop for some parts, then met up with a friend before hitting up Costco on the way home. Spent the whole day like this. Couple people commented, both thought "kilt", but one realized it was just a denim skirt and made a comment about how utilikilts were expensive. Agreed and said that the price went up last year, then went on my way.

Here is a question i would like to get some responses to.

Where would be a good place to just hangout wearing a skirt? To get the message out there that men would like to have a skirt produced for them?

When I run errands i will always wear one of my skirts. but if i dont have an errand to run, where would be a good place to go just to hangout?

Thanks,
Scott

Yesterday Mar. 29th We celebrated the 44th anniversary of our having first met (at a 21st. party), and still after all this time I am so hen-pecked that I have absolutely zero time in the day to 'Hang About', but perhaps your circumstances are different, Azhiker.

I spend most of my time in skirts around our private grounds, but that's mostly hard work nowadays, and with the fine Spring weather we now have, a utility mini instead of similar length shorts is just the ticket.

Tom K,

Thanks but i want to be out in public pushing the cause. I am a self employed computer programmer not under contract at the moment. so i have plenty of time to hang around. I am just trying to think of good places to spread the cause of men and skirts.

The simple answer to this one is, "wherever one would hang out when he is wearing trousers"!

I'm not trying to be flippant here, but in my day-to-day comings and goings I simply go wherever the day takes me whether I'm a skirt or trousers. This can be as mundane as buying petrol at the local filling-station, running the occasional errand, or as formal as local town meetings where things are expected to be reasonably serious. I go to bars and restaurants whilst wearing skirts, I go sailing in skirts, and I go to work in skirts -- it's become a non-event for me, and also for the folks around me. In fact, many tend to take notice when I'm not wearing skirts rather than when I am.

Hi Azhiker,
We make it complicated for ourselves. CR Friend is right, go skirted where you would go trousered. Weekdays, I take a lunchtime coffee at a cafe close to work. These are trousered events because I can't wear a skirt at work. The weekends are my own, however, and I use them to go to the same place but dressed in my own style. Lots of looks, no downright hostility and good coffee, what more could I want?
Really, keep it simple, be aware, stay safe and the rest will follow.
Good luck.
Steve.

Yup, what Carl said. I've even gone into a Pick-n-Pull wrecking yard frequently while wearing denim skirts (and, for a while, in a somewhat tattered Utilikilt). Been doing that for about seven years or so. These days, the only time I get comments is when I'm in a pair of shorts (or, back when I wore long trousers, in a pair of those)... Usually someone is shocked when they see me wearing something that has an inseam.

Me, for once.
Decided to be brave with my new kilt.
One shopping trip to IKEA Nottingham, where a fair number of people MUST have seen it, but I heard no comments at all.
Wore it when a friend came to visit today. He asked why the skirt? I pointed out it was a kilt, and very comfortable, and then it was forgotten.

ya know, I think most of us EXPECT people to comment and make a big deal about it, when really we make a bigger deal of it to ourselves than others do to us...

Well I can safely say that Truro, Falmouth (above) and St.Ives are skirt friendly.
I took a five day break in Cornwall wearing this denim skirt for most of the duration and it was a very relaxing few days. Even the hotel proprietors and other guests where I stayed didn't remark at all when I turned up in it and, each morning, went down to breakfast wearing it. Some skirts I feel awkward in, but this one, from ebay again, I find to be suitably unnoticeable.
However on the park and ride bus into Truro the skirt did tend to fall a little in the leggy category way which I'm not sure gave out the right messages.
It's presence on a casual saunter around Trellisick Gardens, a National Trust place, also attracted no obvious attention, and chatting with some others there about various outdoor exhibits in a staged local art student collection was possible without anyone I spoke to feeling awkward.
Dragging my heels around The Tate at St. Ives in it was seemingly also without interest to anyone. The paintings there also didn't do a lot for me either, but then I'm something of a Phillistine when it comes to modern art splodges.
The skirt did raise a peel of laughter among some kids waiting in a school bus I passed in Perranporth early one morning when I strolled out for a paper. But I don't consider that serious criticism, just good education. The next time they see a man in a skirt will perhaps not be quite so novel and hilarious for them  .

For me too, denim knee-length are the skirts I feel most comfortable in. They certainly attract less attention than tartan kilts.

"the skirt did tend to fall a little in the leggy category way"

Presumably you mean that, sitting down, you felt you were showing too much leg. I know just how you feel -- skirts do seem to get shorter when we sit down! But that does not seem to worry women that wear straight skirts, so why should it bother us?

A very good look. Almost the same as I have been wearing all weekend for the past 2 weeks any where I need to go. I think it is mostly invisible but when it is noticed it does not look feminine or inappropriate.

I just got back from going home for a day (spent more time on the Coastal Starlight than I did at home!) 19 hours each way... ick!
I received a few comments, but none were downright rude. One guy wanted to know what I was wearing. I replied "a very comfortable man-skirt" end of convo, because he really didnt know what to say after that... the other comments were all 100% positive.

Hey, I love the Starlight. I've taken it a number of times. Three round trips from SF to Portland just to visit Portland and meet up with my brother who would drive down from Eastern Washington. And a couple of times at the beginning or end of Empire Builder trips to Chicago. But I always get a roomette which adds quite a bit to the cost. All these trips were in pre-skirting days.
