The $150 flashlight

Post by Elizabeth »

Yes, I spent $150 on flashlight, actually a bicycle headlight. The thing is amazing. It fits in my hand and is as bright as a car headlight. The first time I used it at night was a real awakening. Cars regularly just stopped in their tracks for me, like a deer in the headlights. Two cars even decided that my light was too bright, and their solution that problem would be to blind me with their brights.

Well....you shine bright lights in motorists faces, they WILL do interesting things in return. You're lucky that's all they did. :faint:

It's a nice "problem" to have. If the light is not bright enough, motorists see no reason to give you the right of way, even when it's yours. Finally, I get the respect that every vehicle on the road deserves.

Unless it is illegal get one of those "Stinger" police flashlights.
Light Emitting Diode - LED with a multiple burst strobe light option.
Absolutely will get their attention and perhaps make them think a drug and/or alcohol check is in progress.
Then watch them drive like granny does on Sunday giving you wide berth.

My neighbor who works with the county sheriffs office has one and for about $80.00 quite an impressive flashlight.
Can be bought on ebay example:

Streamlight Stinger LED Police Flashlight Only 75710 (150800561663)

Another thing that is useful is the little single cell flashing LED lights - bright little devils and last several nights on
a couple of AA or AAA batteries.

"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !

Gotta love a decent bike light. I use a Hope LED light (list price about £200 but can be found cheaper on Ebay). It is superb for dark single track and cross country riding and has a three hour burn on full power or 6 hours on half power which is plenty bright enough unless hurtling down a steep track. on roads I generally use it on low power, which gives plenty of light, still lets the cars know there is something very bright coming and it runs for about 20 hours so charging it between rides is less of an issue.

On one occasion I was out with a similarly kitted friend and we were stopped by a policeman who complained our lights were too bright and therefore illegal. A short conversation, pointing out the CE approval marking, was sufficient to end that discussion and he went off muttering. His real problem was that he'd seen two of us coming towards him in a narrow lane and had not known what it was, so he stopped to let us pass. Of course from our perspective that was a perfect result.

The only problem is that Hope also do a four LED variant (twice as bright) and I WANT one. I just can't justify the pennies (even to myself, let alone Carole).

Have fun,

Ian.

Yes, and I WANT a new Merc. Estate, (it would probably have very bright lights!), also a nice little 35 foot sloop and mooring fees paid on the local marina for 10 years. Now, what else is there? ah yes, a Kilt Suit. Now wouldn't that be very fine....

OOOOOOO...... A kilt suit! That would be very fine. I want one for Carl. I actually do not like the ladies version as I think it looks frumpy. Well, maybe, just perhaps if I ever get into sewing again, I just might make a ladies version of the male kilt suit for my self. One can dream.
