I have read several topics in this forum and one thing cought my eye.

To me it seems that in some forums, websites, blogs, Twitter, YouTube, and so on, there are, or more becomes, two different sides. Either they are for it or against it.

Could there be that the first comments made set the unwritten rules of that particular whatever(forum, YouTube...)?
I have found a lot of friendly comments at different sites, like YouTube and here, of course, and then it often stays that way. Or the other side round. It depends on where you turn to.

Any thoughts?

An important thing to recall is that most Internet fora memberships are strongly self-selecting and it's human nature to self-select into groups that are closest to what one believes himself to be at any given point in his life. So, I don't find it surprising at all that some groups are strongly encouraging about alternate style choices for men just as there are some that are vehemently opposed to the same notion. A given reader will naturally gravitate to the one that's closest to his opinion of how things work.

With that in mind, The Skirt Cafe was deliberately set up to actively advocate the notion of men wearing garments other than trousers -- specifically kilts and skirts, but also other non-trouser garments. That means that the membership here has self-selected itself into that camp and you won't likely find anybody that's rabidly anti-skirt here. Although there is a wide variety of characters hereon, some espouse kilts only, some espouse frilly bits, and some a bit of a mix, we're all in general agreement that skirted garments can, and do, work well on the male physique -- practically and aesthetically -- for a number of reasons. Generally speaking, we also do not want to ditch trousers altogether because they are a useful garment for certain sorts of activities. If overt opposition to the notion were to arise from a new member -- and most especially if that member was not respectful and tactful in his arguments -- he would likely be ignored, shouted down, or, if the behaviour was really egregious, banned.

We are breaking a social convention which is clearly defined and very widely adhered to. So people who are in favour are likely to voice their support very clearly, to give the maximum possible support against a possible barrage of hostility. And because we are straying from normal masculine territory towards the feminine, something men just aren't supposed to do, there is bound to be some abuse from the herd.
