Re: Menskirts in the UK
I have to agree about the website, for an online business to have a website that out of date, with none functional email addresses as the only contact, is poor. Still the products are good, I will continue to use them, let's face it, how many companies tailor make custom skirts to order for under £100? I don't know of any others.

I think I already have seen that excuse one or two years ago. They may be making good products, but to me it is pretty unprofessional not looking after their website during several years. At least they could have removed "07/08 news". If you want to stay in business, act as if you are in business.

Re: Menskirts in the UK
I too tried e-mailing Midas last January (ie 2011) and got a quick reply that they were still in business and the ordering on line works. They also confirmed that "they were working on the website" but I have seen no change in the past year.janrok wrote:A few hours ago I received a mail from Lance of MidasClothing stating they are indeed still in business. That's good news!
Keep on skirting, lads...

Another bad sign is that the video with two guys skateboarding in skirts has been removed from YouTube.

I agree. Using a out of date and unprofessional looking website when they're operating in what is currently a small niche market is really putting them at a disadvantage.
Surely it shouldn't take one year+ to update the website. Even a update to the news section would be a good start.
It's great to know that they are still in business too. They have a great selection of skirts on their website and i intend on purchasing one in the future.
I quite like the look of this one

There is an easy way round this - and cheaper than these sites. Get some fabric you like and take it to a dressmaker, telling her what you want. I have several skirts in exactly the colour, fabric and style I wanted, without breaking the bank.I have used three different dressmakers (two of them retired) and all were brilliant about making skirts for a man. Go for it.

That sounds like a positively capital idea, Rivegauche, but necessarily depends on having dressmakers in your general vicinity who are willing to work with you. I don't recall where you're located, but where I am it would seem that there are no such professionals around which leaves one to either learn to sew -- some of which can be rather advanced techniques -- or go wanting.rivegauche wrote:There is an easy way round this - and cheaper than these sites. That is entirely encouraging that they were brilliant about it! You're lucky.I have used three different dressmakers (two of them retired) and all were brilliant about making skirts for a man. Go for it.

Re: Menskirts in the UK
I'm taking the DIY approach and am learning to make my own skirts, which is fun. The biggest problem I have is sourcing fabric. It seems that most of the physical retailers in my vicinity (Cambridge, UK) expect all the home-made clothes to be for women and rich ones at that. Online retailers are much more tricky, as I have no real idea what the fabric is going to feel like until it arrives. Then there's the patterns. Big shops like Marks and Spencer and so on can order a thousand metres of custom print fabric and sell it all. What I'm left with is patterns that DIY-market suppliers think will sell.
Having said that, I still have plans to get some plain white fabric (lovely texture, feel and flow) that I have at home custom printed. Cheapest I've found is thirty pounds a metre, which is going to make for a rather expensive skirt.
Flat colours are easier, as you can buy white fabric and home dye kits...
We'll get there.
Paul.

Re: Menskirts in the UK
Try the indoor markets--always stalls there with rolls of material kicking about. We use a shop in Cwmbran which sells all sorts of sewing stuff- from zips to said rolls of material with everything else in between.

Paul - Order a "Swatch" of the fabric. It should be about 2 square inches andethelthefrog wrote:I'm taking the DIY approach....The biggest problem I have is sourcing fabric.

the company should not charge more than 50p to 1 pound for each swatch.
This way you can tell the quality of the fabric without costing you an arm and/or leg.
