How old?

Post by Departed Member »

Having joined only recently I have delved into the heart & soul of Skirtcafe & wondered about how old (or young) SC members are, on average. I have tried to find a thread concerning age of members & not found a particular poll for them.
Here is the latest poll.

The last poll can be found in this thread. It's a couple of years old so maybe it's time for a new thread on the subject, sadly I have moved up a group since last time :(

Have fun,

Oops!
Yes, I did see it some time, I just overlooked it when I set this one up.
Well, we shall see what current active members are like today!

Perhaps not, but congratulations anyway! The fact that you're actively considering clothing options other than trousers at 16-18 years may well put you in the realm of the visionaries for your age group. When I was there it was conformity or else!

Actually you appear to be more exclusive than that; it seems (so far at least) that you are the only active member under 30. I'm just jealous, I'd love to be under 30 again, instead of my permanent age of 35 on the inside and just over the half century on the outside.

Have fun and don't be afraid to celebrate the fact that you are thinking outside the normal range, at your age that is very impressive,

Yes, but at 35 did you wear skirts?

Since the curve is so heavily biased toward the old guys, do you think it's because young guys are not interested, too busy or simply lacking the courage to wear a skirt?

No. I was too busy trying to find my place in the world, raise a family, earn a living etc to stop and think about clothing so the idea simply never occurred to me. Had I considered it, I might have tried it, but, in all honesty, I don't know if I would have, I suspect I did not feel sufficiently well established as an individual to have risked standing out from the crowd at that point in my life.

I suspect it is "All of the above" and probably lots more besides. Attempting to generalise about large and diverse populations, with no input data, is probably a pointless exercise.

I find the same thing about myself when I contemplate the matter. When I was younger I was vastly more interesetd in getting myself established than in what I wore. (Sapphire can attest to that!)

perhaps another good poll is "How old were we when we decide to go 'what the heck, just wear it!'".. I get this feeling that a few of us does it at our late 30s/early 40ths.. when we kinda hit the "mid life crisis"? :eye:

That's a good idea, kidme!
I was 25 when I saw this perfect jeansskirt in a shop and I decided to try it on. Ity looked and felt great and that was my moment to think "what the heck, i'am going to wear it".
So I checked out, had the saleswomen remove all tags and labels and I walked down town Arnhem skirted and with a smile on my face.
Lots of wolf whistles and comments back than but I didn't care.

That was 38 years ago.

Brave man (for the time) Janrok. 38 years ago I was already married 5 years and was already the father of 2 children, living in a very small rural community in S. England and commuting just 4 miles to another slightly bigger village where I was the local dentist. No chance of being adventurous with clothes outside of the amateur dramatic soc. where I ran the music/choir.
For a '20s-'30s-'40s show I did dress up as 'Lili Marlene' in a slinky gown with a slit up to the thigh and sang 'Underneath the Lamplight, by the Barrack Wall'....with overhead bright lighting casting long vertical shadows. I had to shave my legs for that. Never Again! I also had to puff on a cigarete in a long holder as a 'prop'. I'm a lifetime non-smoker!

Kudos to you for your courage! One time I got a wolf whistle just for wearing shorts and I got a bit "bent out of shape". Anyway, good for you!
