Christmas dinner with wife, son and daughter. We have a Christmas Day Ritual which consists of taking holly wreathes to the graves of our parents then a few pre-lunch drinks with my brother and sister in-law. All very simple.

This year we will once again have two 'resident' grandchildren, so Santa has been informed, so he will not overfly us as he usually does. Ergo the stockings on the big fireplace will get filled.
I have been recruited to thump the organ in our local God Box, so apart from four standard hymns it's going to be J.S Bach at the beginning, Stainer and Trad. Irish in the middle, and a right blast of CPE Bach to empty the place at the end.
Then drinks with the other grandparents of one of our grandchildren, who live only a half a mile away, then a walk before dark, then Tea & pressies from under the Tree. We tend to dine late, with low lights, lots of candles and all the usual trimmings. All very traditional. We'll have our two younger offsprings to that. The two elder are resident in G.B. and we never see them for Christmas.
There's a Boxing Day walk along the local canal + drinkies with friends planned to sort Good King wenceslas out. It's forecast to be mild, so this year we shouldn't have the white stuff 'deep and crisp and even'. They might be wrong, of course.

The high holiday of the season (or the low one if one is talking about sun angles) for Sapphire and I is the Solstice on the 21st; for that we celebrate with a feast of roast beef and Sapphire's "sinful smashed spuds". That and plenty of beer and wine to help dispel the dark.

On Christmas Day itself, we've taken to making lasagne from the ground up and feasting on that. We have a good time in the kitchen making the noodles from scratch (it'll be interesting to see if there will be any fresh eggs from the poultry in the back yard) and then constructing the layered comestible.

Those two things are a nice way to blow off some steam in the darkest part of the year, and we quite enjoy both.

Let me see -> office "lunch" on the Solstice (21st Dec)- good drinking session after a Cantonese meal.

Xmas day -> Mrs Skirtingtoday and sprog are off to her sister's for "traditional" Xmas feast. (max 7 in total)

Then on 29th, a family gathering at our house which will be virtually all vegetarian (expecting 18 or thereby)

Hoping to get the kilt on for all three occasions...

Would love to get a kilt on for Christmas, but Mrs Purecotton & probably all the rest of the family would either be shocked or laught their heads off.
It's traditional get stuffed (food) drink, & try to make peace between the kids after they lose (or win) on the Nintendo Wii.

Looking forward to school term beginning again & I'll be off cycling, skirted, around Virginia Water again. :D
