Skirt Vs Utility Kilt

Post by SkirtRevolution »

For those of you who wear both, in your opinion would you say that the utility kilts (any Brand) are no different when wearing them than a normal skirt, or would you say they are distinctively different. I am looking at buying some utility kilts as I am starting to get more into this look, but I am wanting to know if I can expect something different when wearing them or if they are just as enjoyable as skirt.

UtiliKilts are substantially different.

Most UKs are denim and pleated; most of my skirts are cotton and not pleated. I wear a slip ("underskirt") under my skirts so they don't cling; this makes them softer.

I generally wear the UKs on weekends and/or when doing manual labor (working on the car or the house, etc), and skirts to work (office environment). If I'm going on a long drive, I find the skirt & slip more comfortable than a UK.

I personally favor my skirts, but that's just my personal preference. The UKs are definitely more utilitarian and appropriate when working outside.

I have to admit that The Public seems more accepting of the UK than a man in a skirt. IMHO, the UK is a very macho garment.

I don't know if they are distinctively diffrent. Like already said, it is a question about the design of the skirt and the fabric. But generally speaking I should say that there is a difference, in favor of the UK. The difference is that the wearer might feel safer in a UK. He can much better defend his wearing of it. His skirt is not a skirt but an American kilt. It is made for men, not from women's department.

And a UK does look more macho than most skirts.

There ARE viable alternatives to trousers.

UK's tend to be identifiable as kilts, not skirts. This helps if you are not feeling confident about wearing skirts. They are generally heavier and made of stiffer fabric. I like them for their look. Skirts can be more comfortable depending on the skirt. If you have a skirt that is of very light fabric with an elastic waist, it's pretty close to wearing nothing...

Really depends on your goal, I like them both and use them according to my moods and purposes for them moment.

By those that wear them, perhaps, but for the general public, anything unbifurcated is a skirt -- even if it's tartan.

Not true around here, people are more inclined to give the wearer the benefit of the doubt, I have even been asked if a sarong was a "kilt".

Like John, I have the same response from people. Most people think that I'm wearing a kilt, even when I'm wearing a pleated skirt that has an elastic waist.
