Skirted in Public 1st time

Post by skirt24 »

Tonight I put to the test of going out skirted in public. From what I noticed more people cared not about what I was wearing and tended to their own business. Some did notice and laughed or just stared and didn't say anything. Some probably thought it was just a halloween thing. Either way I got more non reaction than reactions. However there was this one guy at the gas station made the comment "Well I be d***!! but I kinda think he was drunk the way he talked. All this was at Wally World.

The next part should be first because of this is where I went first skirted.

I went to place called Plato's Closet first and thought should I go in there skirted or change into pants. I said what the heck I am going in. No one said a thing about me being in a skirt!!! I was like wow I figured someone would have said something but never did. I was greeted by a pretty young lady that worked there right away. I walked around looking at the stuff and skirts and then this same lady asked if I she could help me. I asked her if she had any leather or maxi skirts. She answered my question with no questions directed towards me about why I wanted a certain skirt or why I was wearing one. She did say she had some maxi skirts but a few left. I kept looking around at them and found a yellow one and I was like yellow is not me. Then hiding amongst all the black skirts was one black maxi skirt so I grabbed it and that is what I am wearing right now. Its so comfy I really do not ever want to take it off!!! :D Also surprising it is warm but yet its a thin skirt. I am going to have think about what to do when I decide to wear this one out in public due to it being so thin you can almost see through it.

Now to describe what I was wearing out tonight. I wore a just above the knee length denim skirt. When I sit down it comes up no further than a pair of my shorts only though I am not killing myself with crotch cutters with the skirt. I did also notice this. It was probably between 34 and 38 degrees F. with some light wind. When the wind blew I felt like that with a skirt on that it didnt bother as much with pants. I know that dont make much since. I guess it is probably where the wind hits the pants and makes them feel cool. Confused about that one. After all though it was fun and now I feel like I have improved my self confidence by doing this. As a guy it is a battle to step away from the western social boredom and into fashion freedom and I feel more free than being a clone of every western social boredom male. I just wish more and more people would open and realize it is not the clothes that a man wears that makes the man it is the man inside those clothes that makes the man.

FYI my skirt wearing started at home because I was looking for a way to relieve some radiating back pain that was radiating to the groin area from my lower back and crotch cutting pants seemed to make the pain worse. Now I have my back issue 75-80% fixed but I will continue to wear the skirts even though the pain is pretty much gone.

Excellent, skirt24, well done. No stopping you now!

But 38F and you had a knee length skirt on! Bare shins, I assume, as you don't say otherwise. I'd rather you than me!
Keep on skirting,

Well Ill tell you my first time out in public in a "skirt" was about this time last year my wife and i were going out for our every Friday night dinner than to the local Walmart. well i decided to wear a dark blue denim cargo skirt from Tommy Hilfiger, it was knee length and had pockets and belt loops. had a black belt, black tights with my Nike sneakers. and a nice sweet shirt.(don't remember which one....have soo many).

first off she was totally against it from the get-go. but i carried on. we went to Pizza Hut and sat down..there wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant. we sat down i kinda was taking notice to the people around us...i didn't see any negative responses nor and wondering eyes that i could see. but my wife on the other hand was ferrous and thought everyone was watching and staring at me/us. well it really didnt bother me but she was bothered buy me. we got up paid and left. no one said anything....

Next we went into Walmart, now there were a few looked and stares but nothing i couldn't handle. so i went and done my thing and she went and done hers. So i went and got the few things i needed to get and was waiting for her at the magazine rack...she called me on my cell and i went to the check out and we left. well there was only 2 incidents that caught my attention. while i was looking at the magazines there were 2 young teenage girls walking back and forth past me and giggling. well i just kinda giggled back to let them know i hear them. and the other was as we were checking out a couple people were staring from a distance but other than that no big issue.

now a few weeks later my wife after 12 years decided she wanted to leave me...one of her many reasons is because of this incident...she said she was very uncomfortable and humiliated because of that. well now im in the middle of divorce and she hasn't spoken to me in almost 5 months. oh well!!!!

I still want to wear the same outfit again sometime...just don't know when.

Here are 2 pics of the skirt that i wore the night mentioned above.

Great to hear it went well on your first outing. I am also sorry to hear about your back pain. It’s sad that people think that the most comfortable and healthiest garment should be only restricted to women, more people need to see the benefits of skirts for men and to realise that men do have the option to wear skirts. You will find you confidence growing the more you go out, I am almost always skirted now unless I am going to work and as I tell others about 98% of people don’t notice and the ones that do don’t say anything. I also find myself always refining my look, so the skirt I would have worn when I started I wouldn’t wear now as I define the look I am going for as an advocate for men’s skirts.

Hemitom -- I'm sorry to hear of your marital woes, but it was likely a combination of things that set the cataclysm off not just the skirt. Push through it, things will get better.

crfriend, I know there are more things than just that. she has a very low self image problem. I'm kinda at the point that why should there be a major line between men and women's clothing. now granted there is some boundary but when it comes to skirt and hose it really shouldn't matter very much. women have been crossing those lines for years and nothing is ever said. its time the lines get removed....I just wanted to show it can be done tactfully.

Of a first time in public? Sure!

This was back, I think in 2002 or 2003 (Sapphire can correct me if she remembers), and I did so on Hallowen (the safest of days), likely in a black midi-skirt with black tights, a white shirt, and a red waistcoat -- an absolutely safe colour combination. And I was completely knock-kneed with fright from it, even given some gentle prodding from my wife that it'd be OK.

I'd had a number of months of practise at home as to how to move and comport myself in a skirt, so I was very familiar with what to do -- and what NOT to do -- when wearing one, But the jump to OUT IN PUBLIC was a bit of a fright at first, and it put a bit of a lump in my throat.

Nothing untoward happened.

I do not try to "pass" and given my shape, nevermind my beard, would be instantly tagged out, so just went at it as a "bloke in a skirt". Much to my surprise it went over very well, and so it goes to this day, Halloween or not.

I punch things up a bit on October 31, mainly in the realm of colour, but other than that, nowadays I seem to be well accepted as somebody who dares to defy western fashion sense. Life is pretty good.

Skirt24 - I like your choice of skirt & good on you for getting out there. 8)

My first time out in public in a skirt was about a year ago on holiday. My theory is, it's a lot easier to for people to know you in a skirt right from the start, than to arrive in pants & then change. So I started from airport, changed into a skirt & didn't look back. I didn't change back into shorts until 10 days later back at the airport. I considered wearing a skirt on the plane, but was concerned by security singling me out!! My girlfriend was with me & as she had been so cool with me up to then; I thought it might stress her to the point of "never again"!!

My girlfriend & I are very fortunate to be about the same size & she enjoys wearing my skirts. She teases me by wearing my favourite skirts when I can't (around family etc.) :P

She is coming to accept that I want to wear skirts more & more!!

It's very addictive!!

I also went out in public for my first time in a skirt tonight (29 Nov). No place fancy, just Taco Bell. Nobody commented or said anything to me or within earshot of me, although a couple of kids keep looking my way. Felt a little self-conscious, but the feeling went away as I ate. I will do this more often. I plan on wearing, a skirt nearly all the time now. New years resolution: I will wear a skirt when ever possible.

Great term! We've also had "testicle torturers" and "goolie grinders". Anybody got any more alliterative appellations to add to the trousers thesaurus?

Tatie mashers, ok, no alliteration but I still don't like getting my taties mashed!

Not sure of the spelling of taties by the way, (Pronounced like tasty without an S )

So many terms for sweetbread entrapment!

My current thoughts, well, when I was wandering up a hill, are that the best excuse for me anyway is the fact that as a skirt has no crotch, it will last much longer. A set of work trousers I have only worn for a total on 2 weeks at work, are already "bobbling" in the crotchy bit. I wonder how long they will last? Skirts just don't do that!

My first time skirted in public in America was in 2004 about a quarter mile from my home. My GF/SO talked me into it but I was scared chitless ducking from parked car to parked truck in the dark about 9 pm on a moonless cloudy night. I hovered around the approach to the closest 7-11 ducking behind parked cars everytime I attempted to enter the store. This first time was in a mid thigh denim straight skirt with lots of pockets. This was IN the neighborhood I'd lived in for 10 years. When, after 2 hours of almost entering but darting away at the last second I FINALLY entered the store by the side entrance.

Staying in the shadows by the espresso machine, I slithered around trying to slide up to the cash register to pay for an espresso when the clerk noticed me and said, "You going to pay for that coffee or just drink it?" Um, Uh, Mmm, "Pay for it"? I whispered...and from behind me, having entered without me seeing them, two 6' ++ lobster trappers both noticed the skirt at about the same time. The biggest one, about 6'7" and 300 lbs said, "Nice Skirt!! I wish I had the nerve to wear one of those in public like you are. I stuttered for about 2 minutes before stammering out, "This is my first time in public, Sir" "Looks great Sir, he retorted, and I finally started to settle down. We chatted for about an hour and the next week he came by my home to show me the huge skirt he'd had sewn for him and told me he'd had another one made for his wife.

Great experience!..

I'd previously worn sarongs and sulu and tupenus in the South and Central Pacific back in the early 70's for years, but was afraid of the response to them here in America...
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Story of Life, Perspire, Expire, Funeral Pyre!
I've been skirted part time since 1972 and full time since 2005. http://skirts4men.myfreeforum.org/
