Facebook - Men's Skirts

Please do request a friendship and I will accept it. This is all about getting the idea out there in the public that men can look masculine in skirts and promoting unbifurcated garments as a part of men's clothing. The more people see us in public, see us on facebook, see us in forums, see us on blogs and other websites the quicker people are going to be to accept it. Its just the initial shock factor that scares people when something new comes into fashion, but once people start seeing it then it starts to become normal.

I don't do facebook but how is it going?

Its going well, I have been adding a lot of designers (in particular designers that have produced men’s skirts in the past) and others relating to fashion. I am slowly increasing the numbers but facebook makes it difficult with new restrictions. It would be good to see more people who are regular skirt wearers join and post on the page as facebook can be a power tool in promoting men’s skirts. If people haven’t seen it yet please do jump on and have a look, the site is completely open for all to see. Sadly, I think a lot of skirter’s who in the past have been potent advocates for men’s skirts have seemed to of lost their drive, now is the time more than ever that we stir ourselves up again and start blogging and creating again these websites lest all that we have achieve be in vein. I think HEJ in France have seen great results and achieved more public awareness because they are far more organised and somewhat militant in achieving their goal. If we could do this on a greater level we would see real changes. I hope for now this facebook site can be a tool that we can all use for this cause.

While I agree with you in general and appreciate your efforts, I'm not sure that facebook will get the message to many new people. It seems to me that only my 'friends' and those that 'like' your page will see anything that I write there. My friends, both real and fb, know that I'm a kilt & skirt-wearer, so will not take any more notice. It would be nice to think that a wider audience (millions?) would also see that men can be comfortably unbifurcated every day, but I don't think that is the way fb functions.
In other fb groups, the only reactions to my contributions have been from other members of the group (just as here in the forum), not from outsiders discovering something new.

Keep up the good work though!

To corroborate my impression that fb is not a good medium for spreading ideas; I have just found for the first time a page called "worldwide movement for the masculinization of skirts", as well as a Spanish version very similar, that has existed for some years already. There was a flurry of enthusiasm early on, but both sites are to be archived, presumably for lack of recent activity. There has been no snowball effect.

I am on Facebook and I do not mind being identified as a kilt wearer. Unfortunately I am not ready to be identified as a skirt wearer as most of my mates do not know I skirt. As a result I am not going to be signing up to a skirty group as I am not ready for many of my mates to know and am definitely not ready for anyone at work to know. This weekend would have been a big step in the right direction, but circumstances transpired against me. (to be revealed when the right thread jumps out at me)

I am sure B&B has valid reasons for not wishing to be recognized as a skirtwearer, and it's not for me to tell him otherwise, but ...
How sad it is that we should be so conditioned that we feel shame about wearing different clothes than other men. Alas, the churches have obviously left a firm imprint in our brains about sin, that inexplicable abstraction, invented by superstitious old men, that keeps us on the straight and narrow.
I think one of my reasons for wearing unbifurcated garments is that I am happy to be seen as different from other people, since I AM different. My list of interests on fb includes both kilts and skirts in various languages to leave no doubt.

B&B, this is not a personal attack; please do not take it as such. The lives of all of us are affected by things we have seen or heard at various times in the past, and you are just one in a million that prefer to be careful about what is worn.

I do not know what B&Bs reasons are however in my case there are aspects of my life that I do not broadcast because other people may fail to understand them. Folks that know me are not the issue, however folks that do not know me for who I am could be (potential employers with narrow minds and plenty of good candidates for example). For this reason I tend to introduce my clothing choices to people in person, once I know and am known by them.

I should point out that I also do not advertise my dog owning, choice of car or hobbies widely. Folks who know me already know, others do not need to know. I have to admit that I value a little privacy in my life (which is why I have no Facebook or Twitter accounts, nor any intention of that changing in the foreseeable future).

You'd be justified in doing so, as I am writing from the comfortable position of an independent retired person who does not have to worry about pleasing employers or anyone else. I recognize that others have to be more cautious.
