A quiz
Re: A quiz
Yup! Congress would be the opposite of progress! I like that analogy. Throw the bums out!
They'll never get it right if we keep voting them into power.
If only a new party, who could win, would come along. But would they get trapped in the same problems?
Who knows?

Re: A quiz
The problem with that notion is that folks tend to re-elect the representatives that they feel are voting in line with their own opinions and beliefs. Note that it's never the responsibility or problem of one's own representative, it's always with somebody else's. The old saw here is that, "We have term-limits -- they're called elections!"DALederle wrote:They'll never get it right if we keep voting them into power.
It's also worth recalling that the US system was pretty much deliberately set up to make it hard for things to get done -- by design -- and it's that way because of the suspicions that the designers of the scheme felt strongly about. Take that institutional constraint and then throw in a very strong helping of ideology and one has a guaranteed recipe for absolute gridlock.

Got this in an e-mail! More proof of what our congress is all about!!!!!!
GROUP NAMES
The English language has some wonderfully appropriate collective nouns
for the various groups of animals.
We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.
However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.
Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most
obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates.
And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?
Believe it or not ....... a CONGRESS!
A congress or baboons! And a senate and president too!

Opposite of progress is regress.

Re: A quiz
Very good Gentlemen, the answer is: Congress.
Opposite of progress is regress.
and pro is not the opposit of re.
As I said, I had a lot of fun with this question at a factory where I used to work (a lot of puzzled looks mostly).

Re: A quiz
Interesting...I went back online and looked it up in dictionaries, Thesauruses, as antonyms and synonyms and the "only" word not the opposite of congress is progress. Interesting... Regress IS one of the correct answers...one of many that is..If pro is the opposite of con, then what is the opposite of Progress?
