Entropy !?!?

Post by CJFMix »

I guess , when "George Carlin" told us , some time ago , how "Entropy" was taking over our life ... He was right !!!

Our politic & economic systems , our infrastructures , the ecology ... all seems to be breaking down ...
This situation got people I know worried ... In peticular , my 37 y/o son , who is now worried about the future of his kids !?!?

Is there anything that is going right , let's say , the way it should be , in this world nowadays ???
If we take a closer look , the way things are going , it really seems like there is no future for humanity !?!?

Or , is there !?!?
When you look good , you can go anywhere !!!

Balderdash!!

During the last two years we have suffered economic meltdown here at the hands of rapacious property speculators/bankers/politicians with dire long-lasting effect on every man, woman & child in this little benighted 'Land of Saints & Scholars'.
The systems in place manged to allow us kick all the politicians out in March, producing Regime change in Dublin, but not one property speculator or banker has been prosecuted....yet.
It would be easy for us all to be depressed and play the Entropy card, but far from it.

At the official lunchen at Trinity Rowing Regatta yesterday the main speaker was our newly-appointed Minister for Transport, Sport and Tourism (Yes, to reduce Cabinet numbers they have telescoped some briefs together) Leo Varadkar, of Indian descent, but a Triity graduate, now only in his early thirties gave a decidedly upbeat speech about his areas of influence and the forthcoming visits here by Pres. Obama and the Queen of England &c.

He positively exhuded the 'good to be alive' feeling, and was to put it mildly warmly applauded. Perhaps I was in a better than normal mood, as we had just won the final of the 'Masters' Eights, making that my second Gong so far this rowing season.

Chins up !!

Are YOU one of those, Grok, since you seem to be taking over this site. ?? By bringing back large sections of posts from 2006 etc. ???

Not quite. If one takes a look at the historical usage of the term "Robber Baron", one finds it primarily applied to individuals in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Quite unlike those of old, who actually got things done and left legacies (like railways, steamship lines. libraries, and whatnot) the current crop are mere common criminals, albeit at a staggering scale.

The comaprison strikes me as an "apples to oranges" one.

Sometimes it is rather fun to look back at old threads that are still relevant. I enjoy seeing how the views and feeling of the forum have changed over time, but would probably not find the old threads for myself as I just don't have as much available time to dig around as I'd like to have.

Have fun,
