Wedding Anniversary

Post by Kirbstone »

I had met her at a fellow rower's 21st. birthday party the previous March. She was 21 and asked me how old I was. I said that I was all of a quarter of a century, which seemed old to her. By May we had decided we should get hitched, and plumped for a date in the middle of Winter January 4th. 1969.

Luck was with us, and the day dawned frost free and sunny after some morning mist, so everybody got there (Long Ditton, Surrey) without travel problems. My nearest brother was best man and my parents, best pals and near cousins travelled over to England from Ireland. My uncle & aunt from Birmingham brought all six of their offsprings and one grandchild, which boosted the numbers on my side considerably. Needless to say the bride's contingent turned out in considerable numbers.

We took the precaution of parking our getaway car a few blocks away from the reception, so it wasn't interfered with, as is the custom in these parts. My best man drove us to it, so we could drive to the West Country as normal, without wedding appendages. (Modest inexpensive honeymoons then).

At that time one could crawl all over Stonehenge without hindrance, so my pics. of Bride in her wedding trusseau used it as a backdrop, a bit like Vogue magazine....
42 years later we're still dressing up!

Happy Anniversary :!:

My wife & I will have 39 years this coming June. It's to bad that some people,
in today's society, consider marriage as a 'disposable item'. Good to see you're
not one of them.

Married 38 years to the same woman with: Seven kids, six Grandkids (so far), five Dogs, two Cats, two parakeets. one Cockatiel, one Hamster, one Dwarf Gerbil, one Snake, several hundred snails and a multitude of goldfish...and we're still together. We've been through poverty, plenty and now the average of the two. We plan on making it to our "Golden Anniversary." Our biggest argument is, "Which one of us is more tolerant of the other?"

Well done Uncle Al, Paul, and Jayce. I agree, When one commits to the state of marriage one is in for the 'long stretch' if the Lord permits.
I am amused at Jayce's menagerie. Allow me to compete: The offsprings and their children are only occasional visitors now, but my Much Better half keeps quite a mixed bag going here....3 Donkeys, 5 dogs, 4 cats, 4 geese, lots of hens, 7 ducks, some 22 tumbler and fantail doves, one pond full of surviving goldfish (despite the predatory herons) and one small lake full of minnows, sticklebacks, gudgeons, rudd, bream and tench. Earlier we twice stocked it with rainbows, but the local otters dined on these gourmet-style until they were all gone. All the present fish are local to the nearby canals and are less attractive to fauna, but VERY attractive to fishing grandchildren!

In Ireland we have no snakes, as such, but plenty of them in Banking and Government.

I've been married twice and still am to my second wife. Keep in mind that I really loved my first wife and honestly tried to make things work out better then they did. That marriage lasted 20 years. Actually, id it wasn't for modern medicine she would have been a widow before the 20 years were done and I would have been a widower after our third daughter was born.
Now I'm married to a wonderfull woman, whom I adore with all my heart and we were married in 1985. So we are in our 25th year going on 26.
I guess I'm just someone who likes stability in my life.
Besides the dating scene is a mess today!
