Skirted over pantaloons on the Spanish Main

In the time of the Spanish Main and Kingston Jamaica in the 1750's thru the 1790's and most men wore skirted coats, split skirts over pantaloons and mostly rather fancy lace ties, sleeves and wigs. Even BlackBeard the Pirate wore a black wig which he braided and put live firebreands on the ends of when jumping on a ship to plunder it. Made him look FIERCE and CRAZY..Everyone was scared to death of him. The reason he used wigs for this usage, is sometimes the wig would take the fire and burn up...He didn't want his own hair burning so he used wigs instead. His beard was getting burned off on a regular basis and being re-grown..

At this time BlackBeard's base of operations was on the island of Tortuga. I'm sure you've all heard of the pirate stronghold of Tortuga...Does anyone other than Mugs-n-such know where Tortuga is and what it's called today?? A Kewpie Button for the first one to name it. Mugs-n-such is out of this because I told him where it is and what it's now called. Today's main product there(other than tourism) will give you a clue as to what Island it now is known as.
