The Galeries Lafayettes is a french deparment store like Le Printemps. But cheaper in general. Take a look at this .... That's a way to push skirts as a mainstream garment for men..... Wish Macy's would do something similar!

Looks like you posted the pic. upsde down, judging by the over-writing. Clever, though. The kilt the guy's wearing looks like a McLeod Yellow Tartan. I love the way it moves.

The picture is posted the right way up. I was in Paris about two weeks ago and the writing on the ad is upside down.

However, that yellow kilt is nowhere to be found anywhere in Galeries Lafayette. I spent an hour or so looking for it and couldn't find it.

On the other hand, in Bon Marche (another top level Parisian department store) I found a kilt and a skirt in the men's department. The kilt was on a mannequin in the men's department, and while it was worn over a pair of leggings, it was still a kilt. I didn't take a picture, but the total outfit was a medium gray jacket over a black shirt with a houndstooth wool vest, a very fuzzy medium gray kilt with black and maroon accents, and light gray leggings. All very cool, but also a little predictable.

On the other hand, in the Marc Jacobs boutique I saw a black skirt with multiple layers. It's a little hard to describe, but imagine six or seven skirts in combination but with the common areas all fused together. Price was 450 euros, but what I found totally cool was that this skirt was just hanging there with Marc Jacobs trousers. Nothing featured, nothing exceptional, just another thing to buy if you could afford it.

I've seen quite a lot of 'runway' pictures of men in skirts but worn with trousers.

What is the point? Surely its skirt OR trousers...

Still, I'm a newbie - what do I know.

I would really like to own the yellow kilt outfit thought. That is neato!

There is a plethora of traditional kilt and outfit manufacturers North of Hadrian's Wall who would be only happy to oblige you.
Such a kilt would set you back Ca £ 250, and for the whole outfit, waistcoat, jacket, dress shirt, cravatte, stockings & brogues you're thinking of £600 & the rest. No joke, so you've got to have a wedding coming up, or something !

If you are human sized, so that you don't need more than 8 or 9 yards of wool for the kilt, it can be possible to buy a kilt outfit, tailor made, for much less. When I was in Hector Russell in Glasgow ordering a full outfit, they had the following offer:
8 yd kilt for £299, with 20% off, free jacket with any kilt. They were also selling complete outfits for under £500
Found the offer for the full kit outfit offer on line, here is a linky thing:

I saw that, but being monster sized (12 yard kilt from a dearer supplier to get the tartan I wanted) and then looking at alternative sgian dhus, belts, buckles etc. cost me a fair bit more.

Still, a good kilt will last a lifetime as long as you don't put on four stone like I did, so I think they are worth the expense if you will get the use out of them.

Edited to add a missing word.

I know that sometimes the Galeries Lafayette have ads that just want to set a mood.... Here it says, "Fashion is you" (La Mode c'est vous!). So by wearing a skirt/kilt, men create fashion.... I wished we could see that in the US. in the US, Fashion for men is inexistent!
