Summers over (Thank God!)

Post by DALederle »

Now that's a statement I thought I'd never say. I always like summer, since I can go out wearing LESS and skirt or dresses are more comfortable in warm weather then they are in winter. I'm now going into "Oh, God! Winters coming" mode which means in a month I'll be hole up inside with the heat on and bundled up head to toe to try and stop shivering and shaking, which I do for about six months straight every year.
But this summer was awful and I' not talking the heats.
I'm talking the allergies. The spring allergy, which usually go away by late June, have hung on and on right up until now. The pollen, ozone, etc. counts have beeh high all summer and never let up. I spent most of the summer inside with the air conditioner running and my electric bills are huge, to say the least. Now the temperature is cooler and the windows are open, but we're only days away from the fall allergy season. Followed by the indoor allergy season of winter.
My yealy break were I can get our and feel normal (almost) never happened this year.
Anyone else notice the kind of summer we had?

O Really!!! My inside the house A/C is set at 72 degrees F because it's 120 degrees F OUTSIDE the house. We expect at least 5 more weeks of stifling heat before we even get a drop of 5 degrees F. It usually gets warmer (as opposed to hotter) around the first of November, (my b-day) and cooler around the first of December. We can change addresses for the next 2 months if you like. I'd love some coolness AND a Fall. Remember, in the Florida Keys, Winter starts in December, with NO Fall between Summer and Winter. Then in March it starts to get hot. Yes, NO Spring.

Well Dennis, my electric bill for August - payable in September - was $507.08
and our thermostat was set on 72. The A/C could not keep up with the
high temps between 100-107*F. It did cool down a bit, if you call 85-90*F
at night cool.
I dread my next electric bill. We've been switched over to the 'new'
type of digital meter. In the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex there has been
major misgivings about the 'new' meter. I think it has to do with the
way the 'final' reading was taken off the old style meter. Some people
had $900.00+ bills and others had $10-15.00 bills. I guess 'it' will work
out in the long run.

Keep your fingers crossed :!:

Here in Ireland we say 'Summer's over'....what a pity. Our Summers are short, interrupted by Atlantic cyclonic weather systems, and never too hot. They mean that for a few short months we DON'T have to heat our houses, so the electricity & fuel bills drop considerably.

This was about allergies, not heat!
Wow!
Look how our POVs diverge!
Well, that happens when you speak your mind about something!
My pulmonologist told me the same thing, recently. They are doing and seeing a more patients this summer then in years past because of the non stop allergy season in the Chicago-Metro area.

Dennis,

Both my wife & I have some kind of allergies. Mine usually act up
in the early spring to late fall. My wife is allergic to Cotton Wood.
So when the Cotton Wood trees are in full bloom, the 'stuff' is flying
through the air, she's in full misery :!:

I understand your reasons for the A/C. Ours is HEAT, and a side
benefit is helping to 'strain-out' the allergens from the air.
