Black tights with black office type shoes, a stripped thick material skirt just over the knee, mainly red and green, a business type shirt.

A black skirt suit, and as our dress code at the office says, my skirt ending about 2 inches about my knees. Its an A-line straight tight skirt.
Um, A-line skirts are shaped like an A, they are flared skirts, they are not straight or tight on the legs. They are named A-line because of the A shape. to be tight, one needs a straight, hobble or Pencil skirt. Not an A-line.

I'm at home alone & am very comfortable in a black short sleeved shirt, Opaque tan Danskin Man-tights, sneakers and a little blue denim flat front & back, but pleated at both sides skirt I picked up in Debenhams. It fits snugly waist high, and falls to just below mid-thigh. No belt.

I suspect this may be one area where we could help ourselves by compiling a glossary for the forum explaining terms such as hobble, pencil, a-line, tulip, circle... in the context of skirts. This is one of the things that caused me some difficulty when first reading here. Not having grown up with skirts in my wardrobe I was unfamiliar with many of the terms used to describe them. I guess a few sketches to illustrate shapes would be helpful too.

Any volunteers to get the ball rolling?

Have fun,

Ian.

PS: (To stay on topic) I'm at work (having an early lunch break) so current threads are Olive twin-tubes, a creamy coffee coloured shirt (good in the event of those occasional mishaps) and a dark green neck tie with an Ushers crest on it. UK readers may remember the Ushers Brewery in Trowbridge for their excellent range of beers. Sadly they are no longer in business, but the production equipment is - it was sold to a company in Korea.

I found that the Wikipedia has reasonable descriptions of almost any skirt I have ever heard of, worth a look.

5:24 PM in the happy city of Key West Florida. I'm wearing a knee length modified denim pencil skirt, (it's not as tight as a normal pencil skirt) more straight with a slit in the rear. It's my fav skirt for sitting at the computer. A cotton, Forest Green, T-shirt and a pair of rubber shower shoes, which I wear a lot around my house. :D I'm visiting a friend today in Key West. He's considering trying a skirt, he'd look really good in one as he's very slim. 5'8" 124 lbs. (I'm sooo jealous) He likes "black muscle shirts" and is considering a black pencil skirt. I told him I'd pay for it if he'd wear it outside. He's not so sure about that hurdle "outside". :D

sigh...anyone who never sharpened a pencil in a pencil sharpener please speak up. The part down at the end away from the eraser where the carbon comes out to write or draw with is tapered to a point..If you cut off the pencil just where the tapering starts, break off the black writing part leaving a hole where the "lead" was, put that end down and the cut off top end up, you'd have the shape of a PENCIL SKIRT. It's tight from the hips to the knees. Didn't you look at the pictures of types of skirts I took 2 hours to collect and post so everyone could see what a true pencil skirt was shaped like?

Please read those picture posts and SEE what a REAL pencil skirt looks like. It's NOT straight.

Members, Sorry if I seem aggravated. I just get tired when I do a lot of work for people and one or more of them don't seem to appreciate it. My bad. This is my last statement on this subject. It's giving me a headache. :blue:

So if it bothers you to read his descriptions, why not just pass over that post to the next one? Reading a constant stream of complaints about how somebody describes and wears their clothes makes this forum much less enjoyable to read.
