length & weight

Post by PatJ »

Finally had some Spring temperatures around these parts. So --- :D
the long heavy skirts were put into storage and the short and lighter weight skirts came out of storage.

I almost forgot the light swishing feeling of a what Summer skirts was like. The heavier long Winter skirts was almost like having a blanket wrapped around me. With Temperatures in the low 80's on April 1st, I wonder just how hot this Summer will get.

It would be interesting to know how many of us have two sets of skirts - cold weather and warm weather versions. :?:

My newest skirts are all ankle-to-floor-length and pretty heavy; that, along with the fact that petticoats are pretty much required to control them, is going to relegate them to winter use. I'm going to give one a spin this weekend when I visit a family friend in my old hometown, and with the temperature slated to be in the mid 70s I suspect I'll be very warm indeed.

The sad part is that I really like my very long rigs, and will likely miss them in the summer. I wonder if lighter-weight long ones are made....

Carl, yep, you can get lightweight long skirts. I've had a couple back in my early days, before I discovered that I preferred knee-length and shorter skirts year round. For really warm weather, it might not be a bad idea to get a couple knee-length rigs, tho.

I've posted this link elsewhere here, but I love my sample of this skirt.

I tend to be cold, so I've only worn it out when it is in the 60s and I can walk on the sunny side of the street. But it is lightweight and makes a great sound as you walk. :)

My winter skirts are all longer (below the knee to floor length) summer skirts are above the knee. Something akin to cargo shorts length. I do like a light weight long skirt for summer evenings out on the deck.

I have lightweight short length for summer and long in various weights for the cooler weather which I very much prefer (both clothing and climate)

I hate Spring!

Just got my heavy longer skirts put away because the temps were in the 70's and 80's and today it's back down near freezing. Too cold for my Summer skirts.

I don't have separate "winter" and "summer" skirts, but I do wear different skirts depending on the weather. Also depending on how warm or cool I feel. This weekend, I varied between knee length (22"), calf length (25") and ankle length (33"). When I go to a dance, I usually bring a second skirt in a different length. One time, during the summer, I had on a 30" skirt, but it was so hot I switched to a 22" lighter-weight skirt in the middle of the dance. Less swirly, but on the other hand, I didn't pass out.
