Warning, whatever pics I post either here or at flickr from now until about June or July will show a radically different hairstyle than what I normally have. Due to a divorce trial that my sister's going through, I had to go to a barber shop and have my waist-length hair lopped off. Something I'd been working on for 5 years. Oh well. I'm growing it back.

Growing hair to a good length like that takes a lot of time. Having to cut it off to suit someone else (even if it is your own choice) must really suck.

Have fun,

Ouch. Sorrry to hear about that John. The nice thing about hair, though, is that it does grow back; it just takes a while.

Ian -- Yes, cutting off long hair is rather traumatic. I made the mistake once with a now long-ex-girlfriend and instantly regretted it; it felt like I'd been scalped.

Carl,

Yup, that's exactly how it feels. Feel like I'm missing a body part.

Since I was 22, I've tried repeatedly my whole life long to grow my hair out in the front, instead of having "bangs" which give me a constant headache and end up forcing me to cut it off. When I was 17 I grew it out in the front but when I was arrested on a stupid charge at 22 the jailers held me down and cut it to bald. Talk about losing a body part, that's exactly what it felt like. After that I kept trying to grow it out in front with not much success beyond the headaches. In 2004 I decided to try again for long all around, I succeeded...They'll have to put me in front of a firing squad to cut it off again. My hair grows very slow, I've been told blond hair grows slowest of all colors of hair. It's still about 75% blond with gray at the temples. When I wear it down over my ears, it also covers my temples...NO GRAY!! hehehehe

Yeah, that's right, rub it in why don't ya!

Since I have slowly been losing my hair since my twenties, I decided 10 months ago to shave it off completely, and having looked back since. A couple of weeks ago, I remember thinking to myself, "Why can't it all fall out and be done with it?"

Somehow I don't think that is going to happen.

Nicothoe, if you want to look at it this way, you're in exalted company, Prince William was out here doing the "Royal Thing" and I noted with interest that he already has a sizeable shiny patch on top and wouldn't mind betting he'll be bald soon Ooh English/ German tautology

We all have our crosses to bear, there's no way in this life I could ever look so good wearing your costume party get-up even without the wig and using my own hair. My 300+ pounds pitch that idea right out the door. :D :D :D

Well, after wishing early on that I wasn't losing my hair, I can now say that like having a shaved head. It's amazes me how much the women enjoy feeling the stubble. No complaints. :D

From your Halloween costume, it looks like wigs fit your head better with no hair in the way.
Given a choice though, I think I'll try to keep what hair I have as long as possible. My hair is now ending right at my armpits in back and on my middle chest in front and I've been trimming it monthly to keep it that length. 8) Too much longer and it becomes too much trouble to keep it clean and groomed. I like looking like a well groomed older man without resembling a homeless one with a deep tan and deep set eyes darting about for any dropped drugs as I've seen in the center of our town where the ground is littered with empty ounce bags and various broken medical paraphenalia. :blue:

We have one homeless man in our town that wears skirts and/or dresses he rescues from the giant "clothes for the Homeless" boxes behind the Supermarkets.

Got a buddy who did the same. Shaved his head. Looks good on him, but, I get chills looking at him during the winter. Granted, he does look a bit like Michael Myers, so he does have the Dr. Evil aura going on. Since my head gets cold now, I wind up usually wearing a bandana, to keep warm... Looks like whatever thinning I had was mainly due to the fact that I had it tied back 24/7. This time around, I think I'll be leaving it loose more frequently.

You mean in five years when it gets back out to your shoulders? :( I think I'd have figured out some other way to take care of process without cutting my hair. Seems that anyone insinuating that cutting your hair would be better for your case is discrimination, and that in itself might be against the law. :blue:

It is sexual discrimination against men as it is with other fashion not to be able to have the hairstyle that they prefer, I haven't seen a woman restricted about that (I am talking about my country),even the bald hairstyle can be seen on women these days. While not even talking about skirts-if you want a proper job you can't have long hair, while a woman can long, short, mid, braided and etc.- same with clothes and shoes- huh. That is discrimination, but most men do not seek their rights due to the almighty macho upbringing.
There is nothing worse than double standard!

One thing that may take many Americans by surprise is that their constitutional rights only apply to their interaction with the Government, and not with private businesses or parties. There was a recent story on NPR* that gave an example of a woman fired for a political bumper sticker on her car. There is no "Freedom of Speech" in the workplace.

Of course, this has implications for us skirt wearing men - namely, there is no guarantee that the law can protect our rights to wear a skirt in the workplace, especially if those rights don't actually exist.

My gut tells me there are more laws on the book in the UK that protect employees rights from discrimination and unfair dismissal, but I could be wrong.

For those interested in the story, I have included the link below.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =123024596

* For non-Americans: NPR stands for National Public Radio, somewhat similar to BBC Radio 4 in the UK, and is a wonderful source of news free of commercial influence. The shows are funded primarily by government grants and pledges of listeners.
