Re: Out in Left Field - Food for Thought

I think he means judging by their own view of right and wrong (possibly regurgitated from their parents or their community). For example, depending on where you lived in the UK and what work you did, in the 1980s, your politics were largely fixed. This is shown particularly in relation to the Miners...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Yesterday visited East Lothian Community Hospital to have a 24hr heart monitor fitted. I wore charcoal gray denim Union Kilt with blue & red check cotton shirt and Robbie Dye [1] jumpe, black fleece lined tights and brown Rieker boots. Nice inconsequential chart with the technician who fitted the de...

Re: The predictive mind

Even the best of us can fall prey to this phenomenon. We recently met up with friends. Their elder son had returned to his university town to meet some friends. On the journey home he made a video call to his mum and asked for a brief chat with us. He had bought a new t-shirt : a kind of black and w...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

I play in a brass band, and we have not met for rehearsal since March, just after we won the Scottish Regional Championship in section 4. We were due to travel last weekend to Chelthenham to compete in the National Finals. These were cancelled, and it was announced last week that the Regional contes...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

We led our first indoor worship service for six months. More people came than we expected, socially distanced, wearing masks and not permitted to sing. However, they all seemed pleased to be able to meet. We are song it once a month for now as there are some who cannot come and therefore need to se...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Thanks KS. Another good day yesterday. Following official duties [1] I changed before lunch into the same outfit. After our weekly family Zoom session, we went for a walk and no comment was made. Honesty compels me to note that my wife has a visual impairment, so it's possible she didn't see clearly...

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

The weather today was really cold and wet, with steady and sometimes heavy rain all day. I spent the whole day in black casual Tartanista kilt with 200 denier tights and brown Rieker boots. The kilt gives freedom of movement, but in the rain the tights are warmer that socks with bare knees, and the ...

Re: Scottish Hate Crime law

I have some knowledge of this subject as I wrote a response for our church to the original public consultation. The proposal for this Bill came from a review by Lord Bracadale of the existing legislation on hate crime, which was scattered through various different areas of law, as the need had arise...

Re: Article on Gucci fashion show

I have no idea what a better approach on her part would look like, however. Perhaps a simple "go ahead, it's fine to be curious" or something similar. What do you all think? I am not sure what was in her mind. Maybe she should have just smiled and left him to it as saying anything would have scared...

I might consider some of the asymmetric styles (which I normally don’t like) but the price is way to high.

Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

As some of you may remember, my wife is not fond of skirts and even sometimes grumbles at me "wearing a kilt al the time" (which is an exaggeration). This Sunday we did our regular delivery of the service sheets then feigned home to prepare for the arrival of family in the evening. I simply swapped ...

Re: How old were you . . . . ?

I can't remember if I've written this elsewhere. I vaguely remember being interested in the girls' summer dresses whilst in primary school. and did once in my teens try on a dress of my mother's. Occasionally I would see a girl wearing something "interesting", and later I would see a female friend i...

I still have my STAR NX1000, 9-pin, Dot-matrix printer. It works if I have the correct connections on the back of the PC. I was able to find a box of ribbons for it. All is packed away - - somewhere...... ;) Uncle Al  :ugeek:  Wow! I remember using one of those (and also the IBM p...

Re: Interesting article about the origin of Mary Jane shoes

Back when I went to lots of meetings in Edinburgh, there was a young woman in one group about 6ft tall with feet as large as mine. She often wore a white Dr Marten Mary Jane that I would have like to try. I see DM no longer make them. A pity.
