Re: Out and About -- In the World at Large

Looking it up, that's a great lot of trails you have there. Bearwallow stands some 800 feet taller than our highest and nearly as high as Ben Nevis, highest in Scotland. Latitude makes a big difference. At just 35-odd degrees North, that places it South of the S. coast of Turkey/Asia Minor, where it...

Great dramatic picture, AmE. The hat tops the outfit off a treat. Trying to place that view and need your info. where it is. A Lot of hills &c but no feature like for instance, the Matterhorn or the Great Wall of China in view.

Re: Men's Kilt by Dangerfied in stores

We've had a dry but cold chilly April so far with frosts most nights. This means that my obligatory dog-walk in the early mornings require all areas to be wrapped up very well, gloves on also. Thick tights over my Neanderthal unshaven legs don't itch at all, so no problem with chaffing or rubbing. M...

Re: Test Positive for COVID-19

This is for Pelmut, who PM'd me about his conversion of his Hiace van which serves both as utility store & transport, also accommodation for one, with detailed photos of same. Alas I have only very few pics of MOH's Camper. This one was taken at a cute little roadside snackery somewhere in middle En...

Re: GQ articles

I find Bailey's far too sweet....a ladies' drink. Likewise Irish Coffee. In order to get the cream to float on the surface off the spoon they first need to increase the specific gravity of the coffee/whiskey solution by saturating it with sugar. The resultant drink is far too sweet for my taste. If ...

Re: Test Positive for COVID-19

Exactly that here, PM. MOH's current VW. T4 camper was bought as a painter's panel van, retrofitted with side windows, fixed 'streamlined' high roof, kitchen sink, cooker, cabinets, insulation, cabin lighting and foldable bed & table. A side awning, too. This vehicle is a real charger with a turbo 2...

Re: Charlie Chaplin - Words to live by

Just across the Bay from my Kerry bolthole the people of Waterville commissioned a bronze of the Great Man which now stands on the foreshore there.

In his later years he spent some time holidaying there and was a keen salmon fisherman. There is an annual Chaplin film festival there each Summer.

Re: what to wear underneath?

It's a long shot to expect to get the General Public onside if you wish to go 'out and about' in 'The Emperor's new clothes'.

I dislike skinny-dipping, too.

Re: GQ articles

In an earlier incarnation our Tudor cottage in Hampshire was about 25 yards long with Sun terrace at one end and kitchen at t'other. MOH produced tea & trimmings on the terrace but always left the sugar behind. Muggins here solemnly marched back to the kitchen to fetch it, but one day I said 'Sod it...

Notice stuck on the glass door of a little corner music shop:

Gone Chopin', Bach to lunch, Offenbach sooner.

Re: How Absurd can it gat?

To beget (verb), is to procreate an offspring and applies to either parent. 'Begat' , past tense of beget was used extensively in documentation of family trees.
'Begotten, not made', from the Nicene Creed is the past participle.

FG., I'll bet that cop in not-so-beautiful-downtown TX didn't offer you a receipt for your hundred bucks. I expect he was pleased with his haul and about to spend it on a snifter or three. In each of the Comecon countries through which we motored in 1966 they exacted a 'road toll' out of passing veh...

Re: Test Positive for COVID-19

I lived in Germany for 8 years up on the North Sea coast, which put me hundreds of miles away from several good friends. This meant that I had to use their autobahns a lot so I could socialise with them. I had a right-hand-drive 5-pot Audi which was quite fast enough and I learned that it would sit ...

Hi FG., It looks as though my few early travel adventures pale into insignificance compared to your Globe-trotting. Re: your comments about Sydney pedestrians, I expect they are divided, like the old Nicene Creed into (He shall come to judge) the Quick and the Dead. :!: Re: the RCMP, driving on Tran...

Re: Test Positive for COVID-19

Too right, Moon. Having grown up with right hand drive and positioning my car on the left with allowance for most of the car's width being to the left of me, at the then tender age of just 25 I hired a Ford Galaxy 400 Sedan in Montreal, packed two of my rowing buddies in across the front on the wide...
