For Those Who Loved & Hated
For those who loved or hated the sections on previous sites covering politics (atheistic/libertarian) I’ve now got a new site http://www.thedeviantlibertarian.net/
wow! very interesting. well done on a great new site!
At last people are starting to support Ron Paul, the thinking man's George Bush. He's a guy who wants to outlaw abortions from the moment of conception onwards. He also supports unlimited guns -- so these babies can be protected from harm until they are older, at which time they can safely enter into a gun battle on the street.
Here's what he said about the Virginia Tech massacre:
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) has a simple solution to future shooting massacres such as the one that ripped apart Virginia Tech university Monday: more guns.
"People are a little more cautious if somebody might have a gun there," the GOP presidential candidate told Politico reporters Tuesday. "A concealed gun carried by a responsible person -- that might have ended the problem that they had at Virginia Tech with one person being killed or two people being killed."
Of course, having no guns at all, and having zero people killed, would that be an option?
I think we could all relax in class when we knew that anyone and everyone could be carrying a concealed gun. Students are known for never losing their tempers, so it would be pretty safe! After all, who argues these days? Nobody!
And anyone who lost their temper, and let off a few rounds, could then be gunned down by a teacher easily enough. Ok, perhaps they'd have a few friends who would return fire, but they could be taken out by a few more teachers leaping into the room with their weapons blazing.
We all know that nobody ever gets shot by accident! Bullets are only designed to hit the bad people. So I'm sure we'd all be a lot happier if our kids went off to sit all day in a school where everyone was armed to the teeth. Hooray for the thinking Libertarians! Where do I sign up?!

To be honest I can't be arsed to argue why gun control is stupid so I'll get Penn & Teller to do it for me

I have a better idea! Why don't the NRA just go around to the graves of the kids who died in all these school massacres and spit on their graves while they're at it? Like an assault weapon is something useful in day to day life.
It's clear that there are a very large number of people who live on the borders of sanity. They can be pushed over the edge by a grudge, stress, an argument, divorce, influence of peers, you name it. Murder rates spike just after an execution in the US; the number of influences on these borderline types is complicated.
But I have a feeling you're one of the guys who shouldn't be carrying a gun, and I'm one who should be grateful for it!

Why don't all those in the anti gun lobby go round & spit on the graves of those who died because of restrictive gun laws weren't able to defend themselves against criminals whom who have no respect for gun lawsIWhy don't the NRA just go around to the graves of the kids who died in all these school massacres and spit on their graves while they're at it?
ever heard of the concept of self responsibilityIt's clear that there are a very large number of people who live on the borders of sanity. I'm with you here Iain - in my near 60 years of life I have not once had the need for a firearm to defend myself. God forbid they become as available as in the USA. The seemingly more widespread availability to the youth in our cities is becoming evident by the number of dead youths.
But why are we discussing this - I thought this was a forum for Kilts and Skirts?

Hey Joe! Yes, some of us more outspoken types get carried away sometimes, it's true. Ziggy has his beliefs and I have mine; I respect his actually because it takes courage to stand up for anything, to make websites, be different in today's world.
Just shows what a diverse group we are! I also think that wearing a skirt in public is certainly a sign of outspoken-ness, so anyone posting on this website at all is bound to get carried away when they're defending their beliefs.
So we have this area, in which to let off steam sometimes!

Why this bloody paranoia about "guns"? ( a sweeping generic term anyway) Way back in the 60s when I was 16, I borrowed a pump action shotgun from a friend and carried it, uncased, a few suburban blocks to our house. There were people doing their front yards who, quite unconcernedly, nodded acknowlegement and went about their business. If someone were to do this today, it would be panic stations, police special operation squads, helicopters, ranting media outlets and God knows what else! Guns are NOT the problem. Now people are getting upset in a Sydney suburb because a gunshop is to open opposite a pre school, as if it were as bad as a brothel or a methadone clinic. In Australia, you couldn't even look at any of the merchandise until the police verified your bona fides with a triple check. Most urban gun owners are into very disciplined fields of range shooting requiring patience, great self control and concentration. Those are not the attributes of a deranged killer! Those urban hunters must have permanent written permission from a property owner plus undergo the abovementioned character/criminality check before they can have a rifle or shotgun in their posession.
If you think I am upset, you would be right. I have been fascinated with the whole gamut of guns; how they work, their history, etc. since I was very small. I, and others like me, have as a consequence, been demonised by a bunch of politicians, some mealy mouthed hypocrites and a baying media pack smelling blood. Banning guns seems an easy answer, but it fails on the obvious point that only the law abiding will surrender their guns, Criminals will remain well armed and probably better armed than the Police. There has been no abatement in gun crime since the great Howard gun pogrom over a decade ago.
I believe the blame can be sheeted home to the very media who so self righteously cries shame. The shame is, in the name of entertainment, they ratchet up the gratuitous violence to a degree that sickens most normal people, hardens those who are brought up on it and preys on the mind of those sick enough to act out the fantasies put in their susceptible heads.
By the way, Beverlonian, Great Britain has the most draconian Gun Laws in any democracy. Was this gun legally held by a parent or illegally hald by?? Let's finish with an old German saying (pre Otto von Bismarck) "Ohne Schweffel und Salzpeter gibts keine Freihut" roughly Without Sulphur and Saltpetre there can be no Freedom!

Guns are designed to kill people. In a disciplined and self-controlled society they do not cause a problem on their own.
In an indisciplined, selfish and aggressive society, they cause a major problem and illustrate the icomplete lack of respect for human life. That anyone thinks they are a solution to the problem of aggression means all sense of perspective has already been lost.
When it becomes more interesting to study and glorify the shiny machinery used to kill people it's pretty clear there's no longer any point in arguing about it. One may as well try to reason with Charles Manson. He thought he was right as well!
