What is it?

Post by Jock »

This is obliquely related to MIS as I’m after comfort (which is why I wear skirts)
I have just returned from vacation in France and have seen French women wearing a garment unknown to me:
Imagine a full skirt from waist down to below the knees which then "morphs" into pants by the time the ankles are reached. On at least one I saw the ankle end had cuffs or turnups. As you will appreciate there is plenty of room for gentlemen’s accessories and yet they appear quite practical – the ultimate “baggy trousers” or "skirtipants"
I would like to find such an item on the www but don’t have a name for them. Anyone seen them or know what they are?

I saw something similar in Glastonbury a couple of years ago. Thought at the time that the elderly lady wearing it was frightened of being molested.

Here's a rotten artist's impression (mine):

(Sorry about the link, I tried to put the image into the post but it wouldn't work)

Perhaps the women are trying to outdo the 'saggy crotch' brigade  and have the best of both worlds.

What it is, I cannot say, but from the description it sounds positively (to me at least) hideous. It would appear that the garment would combine more of the bad things of both skirts and tr*users and only a smattering of the good.

Didn't we in America have a black rock rapper wearing something like that? extremely baggy with no pants like separation from waist to below knees, then "morphs" into tight pants to the ankle? I think he wore a skin tight white top, gold and black whatever below the waist, and square Jackie Onassis hat, also black and gold...I think his main song was something with "Can't touch this" in it...I agree, I certainly can't touch it.8)
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

Thanks for the laugh! Good job I was sat down! Luckily, I don't have any sound facility on my PC, otherwise I'd probably have fell out of my chair! 8)

Hi All,
Yes, what are they, and more to the point, WHY?. Come back Ali Baba--all is forgiven. People wear cack like that, and turn nose up at blokes wearing skirts.

He'll never live those pants down.

It took a bit of searching to find just the right pics/vids.

So Jock, what do you think... could they be leftovers from a few years ago? :D

Och aye - I guess what I've seen is just another example of women recycling men's fashion  It never ceases to amaze me what women are prepared to wear in public, but put a man in a skirt and havers - the world is going to end!

I'll no be buying the hammer pants tho

You're a good man, Jock MacHinery, but you've done no one a favor by reviving the (collective) mental image of MC Hammer! I just hope the garment you spotted is something different. Seeing those blimpish pants around would be enough to send me off "driving the porcelain bus", if you get the picture!

I think you mean a «sarouel» (in French).
(It is an Arabic word for pants.)

I also returned from France after a rather dull (weather-wise) trip to Paris. I also saw some pairs of such pants - not very flattering - that was my wife's comment.

I also saw some adverts for "Jupe Obligatoire" http://www.jupeobligatoire.com/
which seems to have some very healthy sentiments. Perhaps we should produce our own video production and plaster posters over an appropriate city!

 How true, Jock. Especially with me thinking shiny gold pants looked pretty!
