Stock Comments - Which Ones have You Noticed?

Post by skirttron »

What stock comments have you noticed when wearing a kilt or skirt? There seems to be some kind of pattern - maybe the Strange Attractor known to Chaos Theory specialists.

I think "Nice skirt" (with some irony) or "I like your skirt" are top of my list, followed by:

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you wearing a kilt/skirt?"

and

"This is really cheeky of me, but please tell me - what are you wearing under your kilt?"

The other one I've been on the receiving end of a few times is "Where are you going in the kilt?" (or sometimes the complimentary, "Where have you just been...?").

I don't seem to get asked that in a skirt (at least not unless someone mistakes it for a kilt :) )

Have fun,

Ian.

Irish

Post by ChrisM »

I frequently hear:

"Are you Irish?" (Answer: "No, just comfortable." Then they look at me funny as they try to figure out what I mean.)

"What clan is that?" (Answer: "I'm afraid I have no idea.")

"Why are you wearing a Kilt"
for a good laugh I tell them "my mini skirt is in the wash"
and if kids take the pi$$ out of me I tell them "it takes a man to wear a kilt....something you'll never be"

Most people either just don't notice, or don't think it worthy of comment. The only ones I've had which do spring to mind are:

"OK, so why the skirt?", to which I simply shrugged and answered, "why not?"

A similar question from a former collegue,

"Is there a particular significance in the skirt?",

My reply was "Errr...Nope", then I changed the subject.

On one occasion, a quite elderly lady looked me up and down, smiled and said:

"Different!", to which I replied, "I like to be different", and she replied, "Fair enough."

Frankly, as many of us have said here many times - it's just not an issue. You get more reaction wearing an unusual hat or a rude tee-shirt than you'll ever get from wearing an appropriately masculine skirt.

Wearing a sarong in the supermarket one hot day, a female friend said "You look summery" then changed the subject.

While wearing a modern kilt, the usual "Are you Scottish" is common, And of course I answer no, which baffles them.

One oldish guy looked at me and asked "Yes or no?" He probably knew what he was asking, but was it 'are you Scottish/anything underneath/are you from Mars?', so I just said 'Yes'. He was happy.

It's interesting that kilts seem to attract far more comments than, say, denim skirts. I wonder why that is.

Most of time nobody says anything, but I've gotten two "what clan?" when wearing a kilt and two "trying to start a new trend?" when wearing a skirt.

naked

I have also had a "why are you wearing a skirt?" and replied "because going naked is socially unacceptable."

Let's see, when I wear sarongs either in public (mostly to this open mic thing I go to) or at friends' houses and parties and stuff like that.....
a)Why are you wearing a skirt?
b)Do you belong to a special religion?
c)Are you a Hare Krishna?
d)Are you a Muslim?
e)Where did you get it?
f)What are you wearing underneath?

I've once gotten a rather disturbing "g)do you sleep with little boys?"
I wonder where THAT came from? Especially, as far as I know, the man most alleged to do that doesn't wear any kind of skirted garment whatsoever.

The only negative comment I've ever gotten was someone asking if it was "cross-dressing day." I replied that I didn't consider it cross-dressing, since I wasn't pretending to be the opposite sex. He didn't really answer that.
Are you crazy? Are you high? Or just an ordinary guy?

Novel Comment Today

Post by skirttron »

Today I was asked if I got the idea of wearing my camo kilt from a revisionist production of Macbeth in which the actor who asked me had appeared. "No", but top marks for originality.

I forgot how I replied, but I think I said "no", which of course is true....and then made a comment about making assumptions. I told her that I'm still hoping for a special girl. Which is also true.
