cityskirt.com under attack / radio interview on 9/6

Post by DanR »

cityskirt.com is currently under a DDoS attack and is unavailable. HTTP traffic has wildly exceeded the limit on my hosting plan. It's only going to get worse too, as tomorrow I'm scheduled for a phone-in radio interview on Seattle's KVI 570AM in the morning. It's for The Commentators, a liberal and conservative talk show. Sometime in the 10 o'clock hour is the appointed time, if you're interested in tuning in. These things to flare up from time to time with the press, so there will probably be more fallout for the next couple weeks.

We're doing what we can, but the site is under siege and I've had to threaten legal action against photobucket.com for illegal use of my copyrighted product pictures.

Once things get back under control, I'll extend the sale a little longer to make up for the denial of service attack. Anyway, you all have my apologies for not being able to get into the CitySkirt site. When things get crazy, they do so with vigor, don't they?

I'm sorry to hear that.
I read some of the posts you linked us to over at that conserv/repub website.

I do hope photobucket meets your demands on this.

I'm planning on saving up to purchase a new skirt from you next month, so I'll be patient.
I still have to decide between a couple of them.

Take care!

OMG!!! Why would anyone want to attack your site. I bet it has something to do with that post on that Blog. People can be som intolerance about others. I hope the authority is able to catch the hacker and lock that person up for good.

And good luck on your interview tomorrow.

Thanks, Raphael.
It's the "press," only this time on radio. I'm going into it feeling defensive but I'm consciously trying to keep an open mind. Sensationalism sells ads though, and KVI (a part of Fisher Broadcasting) is no exception.

Who'd want to attack my site? From what I Google'd today, it appears as if there are legions of people filled with hate for anything out of the norm here in the US. Another reason to be glad to be in BC, eh?

BTW: CitySkirt is back up and running. At least for now.

Hate Mongers

Post by Since1982 »

Check out "The Student Room" forum and "Christian Forums" if you want to see some real heavy hate for men in skirts. "The Student Room" is about 99% college students and nearly 75% female responders. Boy Oh Boy do they hate the idea of men having any choice other than dark, dull, lemminglike sameness and heaven forbid the idea of a man wearing a skirt for comfort only. IF he's wearing it as a CD or Transvestite, then it's just OK with them, but not to wear a skirt while being a heterosexual male wanting only the choice and comfort of alternative clothing choices beyond the same old suits and hip hop styles. :shake:

Radio interview: No big surprises

Post by DanR »

I got bumped earlier by the president. (He's good for something, I guess.) So I reluctantly agreed to a few minutes on air. Needless to say, John Carlson and Ken Schram were complete idiots. Schram was worse than usual. (I had thought that wasn't intellectually possible but I was mistaken.)

I got them corrected on a few of their preconceived notions, but Carlson (the conservative) was even more sophomoric than I remember him being in his television days. Thankfully he lost his recent run for public office here in Washington. Sometimes the universe aligns just right.

I'll be glad when the nation's attention is distracted by something else. Look, everybody, something shiny!

Dan,

Is the radio interview available to listen to online? Even if the two were total morons it's sometimes good to remind ourselves how (some) others see us.

Have fun (and don't let the morons get you down),

Ian.

I found "The Student Rooms" but I can't find this discussion. Could you post a link?

http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=250459 This should take you to the thread I started as "ComfyMan" I think there's been 73 replies. Check them out. :)

This is a typical reply >>> If you really want every body looking at you, and thinking you are nuts then go for it. Kilts are a party piece (or something you wear to weddings). Girls prefer men to be in suits, not in a skirt. Practice your fantasies in your own home where a lynch mob cant get you.

Thanks for that. I've registered under the name "Bison". I am actually, technically, a student (part-time PhD research student in English at Huddersfield Uni), to I'm entitled to post there.

As soon as I get the moderator approval, I'll join in and give you some support.

Not to sound condescending (but I guess I am), it's hard to take their opinions very seriously.

I remember what I and my fellow students were like back in college. Most of us hadn't grown up enough to have opinions of our own.

After 12+ years of "conservative arts" education, 12 years where getting by means sussing out the answer expected of you and making it seem like you thought it up yourself (and never, ever telling anyone what you really think), 12 years imprisoned within a "Lord of the Flies" society where your very survival depends upon blending in with the herd, how can you suddenly start thinking for yourself, or view being conspicuously different as anything but suicidal and a danger to everyone around you?

Even if they thought differently from the herd, it wouldn't occur to them to (ohmygod!) say it; and if they did, they don't even have the words for it yet.

Give them 5--10 years in the "real world", and maybe they'll have had a chance to have an original thought, and then they'll be worth listening to.

Unfortunately, many never recover from the brainwashing we call "education."

I'd be interesting to see what is said about Midas' website on that forum, since it's from that side of the pond...

http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?p=348022 This is the "All things Japanese" forum. You'll be surprised how strange some of the answers to basically the same question are there. At that site I'm "ComfortableMan".
