Long nightshirts

Post by Big and Bashful »

Hi,
I have seen many people on threads saying they wear ankle or floor length nightshirts at night. I have been looking for long nightshirts for years but never found any. Being over 6 foot 2 for a nightshirt to be long it needs to be really long.
Any ideas?

I suspect you're talking "homebrew" for that look. Classic nightshirts tend to be knee-length, not ankle- or floor- length. That's the realm of the nightgown.

I suppose that there's nothing saying that nightgowns are "off limits" for blokes, but most of the commercially-available ones seem to be a bit on the "ornate" (read, "feminine") side for most men. Classic nightshirts are almost uniformly plain and unadorned (and in cotton -- foo! Give me satin!).

I wear a nightshirt to sleep in or wander my home for water or whatever. I bought both of mine from the KINGSIZE Direct shops catalog. They almost always have several different styles of mens nightshirts for sale and to get a catalog of theirs call this number...1-800-846-1600 or go to http://www.KINGSIZEDIRECT.com

I also have a couple of ankle length nightshirt/loungers that I bought at Lane Bryant. To get a Lane Bryant catalog go to http://www.lanebryantcatalog.com or call 1-800-248-2000 the loungers I bought were referred to as dresses but they are long sleeved straight ribbed knit and very cozy in bed on a cold night..I call them loungers. They are not anything like any dress I've ever seen anyone wear.

As I am also tall, 6'1" the mens nightshirt from Kingsize must be ordered for TALL or its too short. Good luck :):D
I had to remove this signature as it was being used on Twitter. This is my OPINION, you NEEDN'T AGREE.

b&b,

i found this on the kiltmen site, i believe it might be what you are seeking:

http://www.devalifewear.com/mm5/

on the homepage you'll then want to select the link:

Lounge and Sleepwear

this has a number of full length nightgown-esque garments.

Hi there,
Big and Bashful: Dunno whether this is your thing or not but I've been buying sleepwear from Land's End, Bonsoir, Cotton Traders and The White Company for years. Good quality, very comfortable. I love long night-gowns, summer or winter.

I have been wearing a nightshirt-like garment for a few nights while I have been on my own. I must admit, though, it is a female one with a fairly tasteless feminine design on it, and I got it cheap from a supermarket in a 2-pack. It is really a long, soft t-shirt.

I would agree with Skirtron. Supermarkets can be the most suprising source of clothing. Our local LIDL's ( for the US members: a stack-em high -sell-em cheap supermarket popular in Europe)from time to from time to time has men's night shirts among its sale items. I have two; neither particularly long. The most recent purchase caused a degree of discussion with my wife since it was of the long t-shirt variety with a pattern ( androgynous!) and my wife insisted it was a women's nightdress until I showed her the packaging.

That said, I have also bought from the same source a long women's nightdress which was quite unisex in appearance.

Custom-tailored nightgowns

Post by ashtree »

Hi, all
I wear custom-tailored satin nightgowns, robes and caftans at home. It appeared that for my 6'4" it is absolutely useless to search such items in shops and on websites. Cotton means nothing to me. It doesn't give the feeling, the satin and nylon give, gently stroking your body...
After a detailed search on the web I found a local satin lingerie manufacturer. I wrote them an e-mail, describing my "unusual" situation, sending some photos of models I like and confessing , that I'm a man:). I didn't hope , that someone would reply me, but got a reply from Marianna, the owner of the company, young and open-minded girl. And she wrote me, that there wouldn't be any problem to make a special cutom-tailored order and sent me satin patterns and measurement chart (she asked me for the following measurements: back lenth from neckline to hem, shoulder width and sleeve length). I ordered a floor-length shiny satin nightgown and robe in light beige (without lace and other ornamentation). In one week my order was ready. Then I ordered a satin caftan in floral pattern. So, I have become a permanent customer of this company. And the prices are more, than reasonable. The first order cost me less , than EUR 70.

The nightshirts I do have are mostly from Nights in White Flannel, a Canadian company who supply online. They make good warm sleepwear for cooler climates which is great for big old Scottish bedrooms. Thanks to everyone who has recommended sites to look at, I will have a good browse tomorrow, but now it's time to spit some zeds!

By the way,
I emailed Nights in White Flannel and they are building me exactly what I want, A couple of floor length nightshirts with straight hems, a couple from their gowns range, again built floor length and a couple of short sleeved and shorter night shirts for summer wear. I have found the night shirts with curvy shirt type hems tend to tear at the hem at the top of the "slit" bit. That's why I have gone for straight hems this time.
The company are more than happy to make garments up to your requirements. The cloth they use is Canadian Flannel which is soft, warm, smooth. I love it, and so do my cats. Highly recommended!

Hi.B&B,
And what about Version Ltd? Have you e-mailed Marianna for a satin one? Don't forget to send a pic of the model, you would like to order and she will return you pics of satin patterns and colors to choose.

Talking of supermarkets, as we were earlier, the automatic checkouts are kind of useful if you are easily embarrassed, except in one place where the security man insisted on eyeballing me while I was checking through my "nightie".

Hi, yes I emailed them and they are willing, unfortunately I haven't seen anything that really matches the sort of type of shape of thing I want. Having ordered six objects from Nights in... I don't think I can afford anymore for a few months. Still I am keeping the email and web addresses for them. I must reply to them and say I will be asking them for something sometime. In the meantime thanks for leting me know of them.
