Wearing dresses

Discussion of fashion elements and looks that are traditionally considered somewhat "femme" but are presented in a masculine context. This is NOT about transvestism or crossdressing.

Wearing dresses

Post by steamman »

It’s taken me a long time, but I am finally taking the plunge into wearing dresses and I’ve just bought my first dress! I bought this one from All saints:

I tried it on and I was absolutely stunned by how I looked in it. It has an incredible slimming effect. The other joy is that I also appear to be very lucky in that standard dress sizes fit me very well! I tried the dress with long boots just like the model in the photographs. It works very well.

The thing that gets me is how good wearing the dress makes me feel. When I tried it on in the shop, the young lady who helped me was nice and very supportive of men wearing skirts and dresses. It’s taken me a while, but this will be my first dress of many.

That looks like a great choice. It's a bit of an androgynous looking dress to my eye with the chest being de-emphasized and kind of an exaggerated shoulder silhouette. I like subtle the geometric lines. Dresses have to be the most comfortable garment to wear.

That is a good choice for a man, since as AnonUser30 points out, the top area is not emphasised and all the details work is in the lower skirt part. I think choosing suitable dresses is far harder than skirts. IMHO

I love a good dress, I could happily live the rest of my life in nothing but them, done right they are both comfortable, stylish and practical.

The hard part is finding one that fits the above while also looking good on yourself.

Well done, steamman! That is a nice choice. As a fan of dresses myself, I'm pleased you discovered just what a treat they are to wear. I hope you'll enjoy dresses for a long time to come.

I went out shopping tonight in the dress and I decided to wear over the knee wedge heel boots with it. The combination of the boots and the dress was perfect. I decided for fun to go and try on some more dresses. I didn’t buy anything but the lady in the shop complimented me and said I looked really good. That made my day.
