David Beckham (MIS) Knighthood
Cultural, style and sporting icon David Beckham is to be knighted.
He has become known world wide as a style icon. It goes unmentioned in the media now but we, at least should remember what first brought media attention to David Beckhams door. Yes it was a skirt:

And quote:
"25 years later and no one bats an eyelid at the sight of a guy in a skirt - at least not in London."
Everytime you get you legs out and wear a skirt you are changing the world. Rock on Men In Skirts,

Re: David Beckham (MIS) Knighthood
Not seen him in one since and I'm sure the media would have flagged it up again if he had. They do on other celebrities. Doubt he will go for his Knighthood in a skirt/sarong. If he did that would be good publicity for men in skirts.
No chance of a Knighthood my direction but would definitely go in a skirt and if not allowed kick up the equality argument - decline it if need be.

Grayson Perry got an award from Buckingham Palace while wearing a dress, so you should be fine.TheSkirtedMan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 7:26 pm No chance of a Knighthood my direction but would definitely go in a skirt and if not allowed kick up the equality argument - decline it if need be.

Re: David Beckham (MIS) Knighthood
Is this a case of Beckham (or more likely someone from his entourage) pushing the case for him getting a gong? I believe that these things are supposed to be secret until the New Year's Honours list.
I have conflicting views about Beckham. Fantastic football skills but a win at all costs mentality and an inability to control his on-pitch behaviour at times. He has undoubtedly done a lot for charity but then somewhat tarnished his image by acting as an ambassador to Qatar in their bid for hosting the World Cup.
The Netflix docu about him offers some insight to his career and (more interestingly) post football life. But once you know that the production company that made the show is owned by Beckham, you can understand why they threw him such a softball on the Rebecca Loos question and then didn't follow up on Beckham's answer that made him look like the victim.
Beckham highlights for me - some wag from one of the UK redtops referring to him and his wife as Thick & Thin and the many memes that spawned from the moment in the aforementioned docu when David was quizzing his wife about her claims that she did not come from a wealthy background whilst simultaneously (and very reluctantly) admitting that her dad drove her around in a Rolls Royce when she was a kid.
Back to the topic - I think it is fair to say that both Beckham's have made a significant contribution to British popular culture - fashion in particular.
