Need Suggestions/Recommendations

OK folks, I need some suggestions/recommendations.

My browser of choice has been FireFox for 10+ years. Lately it has been
locking up at least 1 or 2 times a day. Mainly in FaceBook. YouTube(FLASH)
hasn't worked right in several months. I WILL NOT USE Internet Explorer.
I've installed Chrome and several things work much better, especially YouTube.
I miss many functions of FireFox, ie: the ability to autoload links into a
new tab, and go directly to that tab, not losing anything on the previous tab.
I like the 'tool-bar' and that it is customizable. Haven't found out how to do
that in Chrome. Someone on FaceBook suggested Opera but I think that is
only for Mac's.

For some things I still use FireFox, but I can bring up Chrome at any time.

Any other 'ideas'

I had some problems a year or two ago but got it fixed with the advice from those pages.

Someone on FaceBook suggested Opera but I think that is only
for Mac's.

Opera works on Windows.

Regarding Flash for YouTube not working try using the YouTube HTML5 player instead of the Flash player. I myself prefer HTML5 over Flash as Flash is not that well supported on GNU/Linux systems. As for opening links in new tabs AFAIK you can do that in Chrome/Chromium as well. I myself use Firefox on GNU/Linux systems and it rarely hangs or crashes.

I only use chrome and have been using it for years now, when I am browsing I either click with the centre button/wheel or CTRL+click the links, both open the link in a new tab. When checking this here forum I go to view new posts, then centre click my way down the list for the threads which take my interest. then I just switch between the tabs by clicking on each one. I find this by far the easiest way to browse. I have never found a way to open a new tab and instantly switch to it. I also like the clean uncluttered approach on Chrome, nothing more than tabs, address bar and a bunch of favourites. One reason I switched to Chrome was to get away from a plethora of toolbars which kept grafting themselves to the top of the IE window, all trying to do the same things. (Norton tried to add a toolbar to IE tonight, or whatever Microsoft call their latest browser). As soon as I saw the web safety toolbar is got disabled, then I just switched back to Chrome and carried on.

For the record current versions of Firefox are designed that way as well, though you can customize its appearance.

Which version of Windows?
If Windows 10, Edge is the way to go.

Stuff like this is one of the reasons I like the fact that I live in a non-Micro$oft ecosystem. I'd be even happier if I could ditch the Intel ecosystem as well, but that monoculture is all-pervasive these days. At least ARM seems to be gathering steam; most of the others are effectively deceased.

It´s a shame. Firefox's days are gone. It used to be the best one, but now it's chrome. Unfortunately it gives too much RAM away

The paranoid in me (brought on by doing computer security for years) would counsel Chrome only if you trust Google. Contemplate this for a moment and consider that Google also run entirely evil things like doubleclick.net and the like.

Opera is supposed to be multi-platform if I'm not mistaken, and I think that much of it is written in assembly code (or used to be) so it's likely very fast, at least in the modules so written.

Internet Exploder has been a continual source of trouble for years, although I'm given to understand that Microsoft have tried to cut that back. However, they have a very large hill of trust to climb.

This is a knotty problem, and it's compounded if you run Windows which is the defacto target for miscreants because (1) it's universal and (2) it's very low-hanging fruit -- and in that case it doesn't matter what browser you habitually run.

Indeed, RAM usage is a big problem with Chrome, especially if you keep multiple tabs open.

On my Windows 10 machine -- my main machine -- I use two browsers, usually simultaneously: Firefox for everything except things where I need to be signed in to Google, in which case I use Chrome. I have not had trouble using Firefox with Youtube. Using both browsers at the same time is very convenient. If I don't want Google knowing what I am looking up, I do my Google search in Firefox, because I practice never signing in to Google with it. No need to remember which windows are "incognito". Also, I always have an instant way to see how something looks to the public, like for example my Youtube page.

On my Chromebook, I use only Chrome, and on my Raspberry Pi, only Chromium (so far).

On my phone, I only use Firefox...for everything. I don't even use the Google search bar. It's not that I'm concerned about privacy; it's that I find Google way too helpful. I hate "suggestions" with a passion. That junk is always in the way of me just getting what I want.

And speaking of Google evil, to really clamp down on the over-eager Google you now have to turn off search suggestions from the keyboard: Gboard. Watching what you type used to be only for spyware but Google has opportunistically turned it into a SOP. Grrr.

Never found I liked DuckDuckGo.

I'm not using Firefox's private browsing feature to accomplish this, just Firefox not signed in to Google.

I tend to use Firefox's private browsing feature mostly to avoid inter-window interactions, not for privacy per se. For example, if I want to change my "location" without losing my spot in another window of the same website, I will open a private browsing window in Firefox.
