Goodbye Princess Leia

Post by Disaffected.citizen »

I'll be glad to see the back of 2016.

Sadly, Carrie Fisher has passed away.

Also, Richard Adams, author of Watership Down.

It is a saddening loss, and just when we need an indomitable spirit in the world. She was just a year older than me. She was the same age when she starred in first Star Wars film as I was when it was released...nineteen. And her daughter, actress Billie Lourd, is just a year older than mine. Her mother, actress and singer Debbie Reynolds, is 84.

Just saw on FB in a friend's posting that her mom - Debbie Reynolds, has also passed. http://www.kiro7.com/news/trending-now/ ... /479507245

Appears to be correct. It's a terrible thing for a parent to outlive a child.

One of these days (as I've been saying for the past 20+ years) I'm going to either buy or make myself the original senatorial gown from A New Hope, in my size. Probably won't bother with the bagel hairdo, though.

On a more serious note, I've heard it's not uncommon for someone to die within a few months after a loved one dies -- particularly with spouses. It's like they just give up producing the energy they need to keep living. Never saw it happen in under 48 hours, though :(

I've heard of it happening with animals; a relative had two dogs who had been together since very early years (not quite puppies) and when one died the other just lay down and was gone within the day :(

A sad loss for the family, especially Carrie's daughter who has lost her mother and grandmother in the space of 48 hours!

On a lighter note, Dillon, thanks for those pictures. I'll never be able to watch the films again without the horrible visage of Palin as Leia!

Well then DC consider this, I heard a portion of a rerun interview of Carrie Fisher on NPR. She was asked which of the coscom portrayals of Princess Leia did she like the best and she said 'the men who wear the metal bikini costume,' especially the ones who are anything but young and lean.

Social norms aren't changed by Congress or Parliament; they're changed by a sufficient number of people ignoring the existing ones and publicly practicing new ones.

And frankly, I see the (the first three) series as a matter of courage and devotion...and the winners are Han Solo and Princess Leia. It is no wonder they fell in love. And yes, perhaps I am delusional on Star Wars...but Mark Hamill was secondary to the real ethic of the tale.
