Skirt Cafe is an on-line community dedicated to exploring, promoting and advocating skirts and kilts as a fashion choice for men, formerly known as men in skirts. We do this in the context of men's fashion freedom --- an expansion of choices beyond those commonly available for men to include kilts, skirts and other garments. We recognize a diversity of styles our members feel comfortable wearing, and do not exclude any potential choices. Continuing dialog on gender is encouraged in the context of fashion freedom for men. See here for more details.
In my posts at another thread, I discussed my preference for tube skirts over wrap skirts as the OP wanted one. I want to see what you prefer, as I prefer tube skirts like the malong over wrap skirts due to modesty reasons (not "open" as it is a tube of cloth) and have more uses (as written in this article).
And also, I think it looks better than an improvised-looking wrap (compare it to a wrap skirt such as in the last 2 pictures in this post:
So long as the overlap on a wrap skirt is large enough then there's no problem and the shape of a wrap can look far better than a tube that just has no shape to it what so ever. I also like to unwrap when sunbathing which would not be practical having to stand up to pull a tube on. I really like wrap skirts so much better.
Yes I know wrap skirts are better for sunbathing and other beach activities. Also, have you noticed that wrap skirts are preferred by western people while eastern people (like those in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, etc.) prefer tube skirts? I think it is because tube skirts are better for other uses such as a "dressing room" for changing clothes (in which a wrap skirt will be unsuitable for) and as a baby sling (as a loop of cloth is more appropriate for this purpose) and we like having many uses for this fabric. See this video for a demonstration of the various uses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPzcZse_dQA. Western people would wear them when they are at the beach where they need to take it off often, so a wrap skirt is more appropriate.
And another reason why I prefer tube skirts is because the malong is a Filipino garment, and I am biased towards anything Filipino

You have just reminded me of an incident many years ago when I borrowed a friend's wrap-around skirt to change under. Very embarassing - best forgotten.
There is no such thing as a normal person, only someone you don't know very well yet.
I understand your point of view, but do not agree with your reasoning. I have both flat sarongs and tube sarongs and anything that can be done with one can be done with the other. The only significant difference is that a flat sarong can be wrapped or unwrapped more easily. Modesty is not an issue as the flat sarongs are large enough to have plenty of overlap.
Having noted the above, however, I have no axe to grind. Wear whichever you are most comfortable with.
Have fun,
Ian.

Another reason (which I did not write previously) why I prefer tube skirts is because I can easily find malongs at Muslim clothing stores and in various patterns, as it is a traditional Philippine garment associated with Filipino Muslim groups.
