Time changes and how they affect music

Post by Uncle Al »

I know there are a few musicians on this forum and thought
they, and anyone else, would enjoy this different 'take' on a
favorite Christmas Song.

"Sleigh Ride" in 7/8 time!
"Santa Claus Is Coming" in 7/8 time
"Jingle Bells" in 5/8 time

Enjoy :D

wow, thanks for those links, most enjoyable.
I think the Sleigh Ride arrangement worked the best for me.
Now to transcribe it for jazz guitar.....
Life's too short to worry, just get on with it.

Strictly musicians music, for sure. Only the Leroy Anderson emerges unsullied from such treatment, which, while undoubtedly very difficult to play significantly dulls the musical enjoyment of the pieces, which after all are meant to be sung by children !! After the initial rythmic statement he just goes on boringly to the end, which in the case of Santa Claus is commin', and Jingle Bells I didn't bother to hear out.

I'll be performing that sort of stuff myself to our local U3A on Tues. 15th and everthing I deliver will be very singable, except perhaps Leroy's own original piano version of Sleigh Ride, which I will gallop through at warp speed just as a solo.

Christmas Day will have me delivering traditional Church Organ fare to two different congregations, but there will be no surprises on offer.
