Starting with a cargo shorts conversion.
Yesterday I completed the conversion of a pair of my cargo shorts to a skirt, and today went out wearing it. Now, I'm quite new to venturing out wearing a skirt, and I found that I felt much more confident in the cargo conversion. I think it's knowing that I was wearing one of my male garments (even though others would just see a skirt).
Perhaps other new “skirters” have or could try this to help boost early confidence?
Here's a pic of the garment.

Looks good Donald. I have some old pants that I don't wear anymore, maybe I'll try that.

Awesome! If I could sew, I would definitely do that with my cargo shorts, but alas, I cannot sew. How did you handle the back? Is there a slit for ease of movement? Otherwise, it might seem a little too tight/straight/pencily but without stretch like pencil skirts without slits.

Re: Starting with a cargo shorts conversion.
The triangle cut from the front and back at the top of the legs was added to fill out at the hem, and that, plus a 2 inch slit at the back gives adequate leg movement.
I must admit I was a bit apprehensive going out in something I'd sewn together myself in case the stitching came out leaving me exposed! But it held fine.

I have made this kind of conversion, but have never succeeded, as you have Donald, in getting the front to hang flat, just below the fly. Congratulations!
(To tell the truth, that is not a length I favour -- I feel it looks heavy and does not correspond to the normal proportions of the human body. A skirt (or even a bifurcated garment) that ends at the knee or the ankle is in keeping with the real breaks/joints of one's anatomy.)
