A sad day in the music world

Post by crfriend »

We need to see it coming, for with 100% certainty death will visit, but today will go down as a sad one for those who really adore the Baroque period of music for today Christopher Hogwood, founder of the Academy of Ancient Music and long-time Music Director of Boston's Handel and Haydn Society passed away.

Godspeed Mr. Hogwood; at least we have your recordings and teachings which are your legacy.

Oh, bummer. This is the first I've heard of it. Thanks for sharing the sad news.

I had the pleasure some years ago of attending a live performance given by Christopher Hogwood in St John's, Smith Square, London, where he conducted the Academy of Ancient Music from the keyboard of his harpsichord and gave wonderful historical context announcements for each work they played that day.

The BBC is full of it today and have broadcast many excerpts from interviews and performances he gave. A sad day indeed, but his legacy will live on.
