As I've said many times before....I don't know where you find 'em, Uncle Al, but that one sure is a winner. A very polished performance indeed and a lovely arrangement of an old tune. The silhouetted trumpeter near the end could have been Old Satchmo himself!

Thanks for that.

Sadly, I could not get the clip to play.

That said, if it's down to Al's usual high standards, I'm sure that I am missing something grand. All I could think of was a trombone in each register from deep bass to soprano each of different construction using more, or less, "plumbing".

A number of months ago Sapphire sent me an image that had a picture of a famous composer (whose name escapes me at the moment) with the caption of, "Don't even look at the trombones. It encourages them."

Isn't the musical world a wonderful one!

Addendum: My ISP (who really doesn't care, they're the Phone Company -- they don't have to) finally allowed me to play it, and it was true to my imagining -- and a delight!

Thanks Al!!

That's great... I'm sending that to the members of the big band I'm currently playing with. The trombone section [affectionately known as the 'Paperclip Department'] will enjoy it!

Of course you know some musicians call the trombone a slide actuated, wind powered, tone approximation device.

"... tone approximation device..." Yep, I've played with a few trombonists and I can vouch for that!" :)

Carl,
I don't know whether you have an entry in Farce-book, but I keep one just for such a purpose....to gain access to clips like that. I gave my E-mail address and password, but couldn't get visual until I clicked on 'full screen' mode. The image I got was a bit squashed laterally, but that didn't matter. The music same through perfectly. I had to play it through three times in a row, so good it was.

The 'paperclips' came in all sizes starting with the big bass ones, then last a tiny piccalo variety, introduced in sequence with the music uninterrupted throughout.

Here is the The Peanut Vendor on YouTube and there actually is 8 trombones ;)

Also THIS LINK shows a student trombonist who built a 'working' trombone out of PVC plumbing supplies :D

Very cool! Oh, and if you're having trouble with that link, or simply wish to avoid your browser becoming infected with fecebook cookies, here's the same video on Youtube:
