Good thought to live by - if you can I'll admit that after the first glance through I had to go back and inspect the (lack of) punctuation. Just my nature to look at that, I suppose, even to the point that I usually can't settle down to reading a book for long until I've checked whether it uses proper ligatures.

You forgot some definitions. Try this etymology and excerpted definition:

That said, (to perhaps take your post more literally than I suppose it was intended) I find it hard to believe that one can find a sensible dictionary definition for "cant" to put replace the poster word with. Certainly none of the ones I've read make much sense, unless you assume that they left out the apostrophe. This is arguably an artistic decision as it would then be the only punctuation mark if you consider the contraction apostrophe as such.
