Skirts should be a normal choice for men & women
Article from the Daily Beast earlier today, taking the French schoolboys skirt day, the Cardiff schoolboys last year among other articles and discussions

One of the comments confirms that Romans thought that "braccae" (which becomes breeches or breeks) was feminine!

It is absurd-nonsense-to forbid males from wearing shorts during hot weather.

Short shorts were all the norm during the 70s and 80s. Just look at old NBA films from that time. Then during the late 80s and early 90s they started to get much longer. Now they're basically just somewhat shorter pants, not really shorts. So I don't see what all the controvery would be. All fashion is is just people getting used to something, like women in pants, or even men in skirts.

I don,t like long shorts either, but there was one thing in their favour.
In the 70s, in France at least, men wore very short shorts *in August*, but on 1st September, trousers reappeared, and knees vanished for the next 11 months. Then later, as fashion dictated the use of longer bermudas, men became less self-conscious of their own legs and began wearing them whenever the weather was bright and warm. At that time, bermudas were above-knee, sometimes well cut and elegant, not the awful baggy things that became fashionable more recently.
When shorts covered hardly more than a swimsuit did, it was not deemed correct to wear them except on holiday. As soon as they covered more flesh, they became acceptable -- a small step toward men being freed from rigid conventions. Now that shorts are getting shorter again, perhaps a knee length skirt hiding those shameful male thighs will be seen as more acceptable, who knows?

It's always struck me as odd when I view comments on articles about men in skirts, when a woman will say: " I don't want to see men's hairy legs" or "Men's legs should be covered" etc. Yet, every time the weather is halfway decent here in GB, men will don shorts and expose those self same legs. Women's comments? Zero, nada, rien.couyalair wrote:..... perhaps a knee length skirt hiding those shameful male thighs will be seen as more acceptable, who knows?

I believe in offering every assistance short of actual help but then mainly just want to be left to be myself in all my difference and uniqueness.

Re: Skirts should be a normal choice for men & women
Today, as for the last week, (warm weather finally!) I have been going to work in a pair of womens shorts. Why? Because with the button up cuffs flattened down, the length is just wear I want it, more or less. The inseam is about 6 inches, and the hem is about 6 inches from the centre of my knee when standing. The leg opening is close enough to my thigh that there is no chance of anyone seeing anything that may offend, and the way they fit is nice. OK, a tiny bit more room in the front would be nice, but it's not enough wrong that it will stop me wearing them. The male equivalents, are almost without exception, at, or below the knee. Can't stand them. I tried on another pair, that have about a 2 inch inseam, I like them, but they would cause issues, at work at least.
My current ones have caused no issues, and only one comment, but that was about lack of tan.
Yes, I would prefer a just above the knee skirt, I'm planning that. (at work)

The longer, below knee shorts started with the Michigan Fab Five in the late 80's. I always lked my shorts above the knee. Although I wouldn't wear a kilt as short as those old shorts, I think clothes should be more seasonal for men and women. Length should be a matter individual appearance. Some men and women just shouldn't wear skirts or kilts above the knee.
