Summer jazz clips.

Post by Jack Williams »

The local Council puts on these free open air jazz concerts on Sunday during the summer.
Managed to record a few clips. Hope you enjoy them. Two uploaded so far out of eight this gig. More next Sunday.

Shocking waste of human resources. Away with that decadent noise-making! There should be big loudspeakers earnestly urging the people on to greater productivity and all the women should be in boilersuits & bandanas laying paviors or sweeping the streets or something....

I'm in the middle of a frightening book by Adam Johnson called 'The Orphan Master's Son'......all about a life in modern North Korea

There is nothing I would rather do just now than magically transport myself to that park, lounge around in the Sun, buy a beer for Jack and listen to that Jazz group for a while. 8)

This is a sampling of the following sunday's (05/02/14) gig. Still getting them up unto YouTube, which is a long process here. About an hour for for a minute of video. It would be interesting to hear from other members their expeiences of uploading video. Not sure if the impending "Ultafast" broadband would be any quicker. Current broadband certainly plays them back without a hitch.

Thanks Rick. Some good groups around here, and a good way for them to get in front of more people.
Great to see so many kiddies in these clips. The future of the genre is assured.

Jack,
I have had terrible problems uploading videos to youtube, then I tried using Vimeo, it worked much faster and with no failed uploads, also they are better for higher quality video. I liked it so much that I subscribed for their full service, if you stick to their free service there are certain limits on how many vids you can upload within a certain period, I don't remember the details.

To give you an idea of the quality, here's one I prepared earlier:

Not bad for an upload from a handheld camcorder.

Hi Big and bashfull: Had a look at that. Obviously a much more professional clip than amature me. It kept pausing all the time though, which I don't get on YouTube.
I do have followers of my channel there of course, who seem to enjoy my stuff, even still clocking up views on the earlier efforts!
First ever clip:

B&B,
You would need to be a serious fan of metal stringed guitar to actually enjoy that clip for all of 11 minutes and I especially enjoyed the mellow timbre of the other fellah's voice, too. :cyclops: Viz. quality very good, of course and the whole nicely browned on top, preferably served with pints of brown ale. :sunny:

I have two sons who play that sort of stuff on geetawr, but are somewhat more adventurous harmonically.

Jack,
Thanks for all those clips. That sort of laid-back jazz is perfect for a bot Summer's day.

Tom.

I think the reason Uncle Al's clip kept pausing is our slow broadband here, as it has a much higher resolution than I have achieved. Perhaps when they've got the "ultrafast" to here (and I bother to subscribe at the higher fee. In parts of the country where it is installed, only 10% of possible customers have taken it up!) it would run unpaused, and I may have a quicker upload speed, although I can find no info on upload speed versus broadband speed. That clip was made with a more professional camcorder obviously, but the beauty of my little Canon, is that it is in my pocket all the time, ready to grab a shot. Those clips were me standing there for many minutes as still as poss, but YouTube does have the stabiliser, which is amazingly effective!
Quite a few people have subscribed to my channel, which is quite gratifying really.
I have many shots on Flickr, but a freind has hers on some other outfit, which I did join so I could comment, even put a few shots up, but I think the more common sites are better in that there's a bigger potential audience. It constantly surprises me who suddenly pops up with a comment. People must be constantly trawling! Pretending to be at work on their office computer perhaps.
This camera is a Canon IXUS 125 HS. A bit smaller than a cellphone, but witH a much better lenz than on those.

I filmed that at the Ullapool guitar festival two years ago, it is at a high quality setting which will stutter if you haven't got the bandwidth (sorry!)
The festival features three days of all sorts of different guitarists and styles of music, mostly acoustic. Jazz, folk, rock, classical, Django Reinhart type jams, singy songwriter type people, Blues, you name it, they have it, plus tutorial type sessions in the mornings. All in a wonderful Scottish harbour town.
Pleasant!

I posted quite a few clips of different artists after the festival, I will try and find them and post links over the next few days. Thanks Carl, I do enjoy that weekend and wasn't happy at missing last years.

Another video uploaded overnight. A Miles Davis tune.
That IS the way to do them, set it going before hitting the hay. In the morning can at last listen to it over a coffee etc while the stabilizer works.
This Sunday see what I get.
