This is sad news -

Sound pioneer Ray Dolby died in his home in San Francisco, according to a press release from Dolby Laboratories.
He was 80 years old. Dolby had been living with Alzheimer's disease in recent years and was diagnosed with acute
leukemia in July, according to the release.

Good old Ray Dolby! Without him tape recording would be much noisier.
