Long skirts for men
The weather is getting cooler; knee-length plus bare legs is not very practical any more. Three obvious solutions are long socks, tights, and long skirts. I'm tending towards long skirts but finding it hard to get any that are made for women but suit a man. Are there any manufacturers of long skirts for men?
Keep on skirting,
Alastair

I have never heard about long skirts made for men.
Personally I definitely prefer knee length or shorter. Look far better in my opinion and are more comfortable, as well.

If you like denim, then have a look at http://www.denimskirts.com/ I have bought four or five skirts from these. Well made, many styles and lengths and those with flies have the zip to the right side. Just could do with longer zips.skirtyscot wrote:The weather is getting cooler; knee-length plus bare legs is not very practical any more. Midas will do long skirts if you ask them nicely, I have had the cargo denim made ankle length, calf length as well as their standard lengths.

Thanks B&B. A few nice plain ones there to choose from! The only trouble with buying from abroad is the huge shipping cost - $30 from that site. And if you have to return it for any reason, the same cost again and you end up significantly out of pocket. But on the plus side the give you very good size details.
Keep on skirting,

Re: Long skirts for men
I happen to really like long skirts, and have three (with access to a fourth that can do double duty for my wife or I). Two of these came from a US firm out in California called Historical Emporium and the other came from Long Tall Sally which is supposed to be a UK-based company with a reseller here in the US. I also have an ankle-length skirt from J.C. Penney (since discontinued) that works very nicely as a summer-weight one when I want something long.
I cannot speak in less than superlative terms about Historical Emporium; the times I have had to contact customer service there they were exemplary! But, there will be that nasty air-freight cost cross-pond, and I don't think that anybody does "surface" any longer.
It's a pity, but most guys, when they first think of chucking on a skirt, think short. The world's a big place, and there are a multitude of options, and sometimes short just isn't in the cards. Winter here in New England is vastly worse than in the Old Country, and some extra armour is frequently (if not always) required. Some of my very favourite wintertime rigs consist of heavy opaque tights, a petticoat, one of my very long heavy skirts, a long-sleeved shirt, a waistcoat, and then a jacket over that. Cold does not agree with me, nor I with it: so I fight. Interestingly, I've found that a very long skirt with a petticoat under is actually warmer than trousers; I so wished I'd discovered that 12 years ago when I used to stand out in the elements waiting for the morning train!

Re: Long skirts for men
I only ever wear long skirts - ankle length if possible. I just love the feel of them round my legs. I have a wardrobe full and a box full in the attic. All of them came from charity shops. Most are passable for men. They are denim or cord or lighter fabrics but one modest colour. I also have several very femine long skirts - pale colours , full and flowery which I seldom wear in public. The charity shops are now selling good quality, clean second hand clothes. I would never pay more than about £5 or £6. The labels are various, M&S, Next, Wallis, and higher end labels such as Jaques Verte, Monsoon, Birgitta, and Liz Claibourne. It's also part of the fun to seek out the bargains. Happy hunting,
Derek

[I have never heard about long skirts made for men.]
I would comment further that "I have never heard about "ANY" skirts made for men long or short" !
[Personally I definitely prefer knee length or shorter. Look far better in my opinion and are more comfortable, as well.]
And I am in full agreement with your preferences of shorter skirts !
I find it hard to consider wearing long skirts after the many years of wearing the 'Damn Pants'.
The problem being the hinderance of motion I was accustomed to: climbing steps two at a time;
stepping over or thru barbwire fences; getting into and out of an automobile; etc.
With short skirts; skorts or even kilts this has not been a problem.
Anyway it took years for the women to venture forth in pants and I foresee that it will be long after my time
before the skirts (even dresses) will be acceptable as everyday wear by men folks.

"YES SKIRTING MATTERS"!
"Kilt-On" -or- as the case may be "Skirt-On" !
WHY ?
Isn't wearing a kilt enough?
Well a skirt will do in a pinch!
Make mine short and don't you dare think of pinching there !
