Social Experiment
Today was a public holiday so I though I would take the opportunity to road test some different skirts in different situations to see the reaction that I got. After the positive reaction on the weekend I really wanted to see if this was a regular response or a one off. So I drove to the shop on my way to my office (I had to do a little work on the holiday) it was quiet but there were a lot of pensioners in the shopping center which was good as I want to see how the older generation handle the latest fashion trend. I wore a 16in a line skirt, cream in color. I really wanted to try this skirt as it stands out a little more because of the color and length. From the moment I left the car, walked into Woolworth, walked through the shopping center and back to my car, I would have to say that most people just didn't seem to notice and the older people that did notice went on with their business like all was normal. First situation was again an amazing success
The second place I wanted to try was a very busy shopping mall near my home, i really wanted to get into a crowd and see the response. I though I would wear my green hiking skirt as I have already worn it in public. I walked around this shopping center for what seemed like hours waiting for some small reaction from people, but with no success. I don't know about anyone here but it was going so well that I was ready to scream out loud "I AM WEARING A SKIRT, CAN I HAVE SOME FEED BACK PLEASE" but of cause i wouldn't do that. It was looking like such a success that I wanted to try a different skirt, my black hiking skirt with pleats. Again around the mall 10 times, in and out of shops, yet it seemed like nothing as if I was wearing shorts. I know that this is a great response and it is really building my confidence that society is really starting to accept diversity, and even men in skirts so much more than what I have ever though, but I often wonder, are people so caught up in there own world they just don't notice or care. Either way this was a great reaction and helping me feel so much more free in public. This is not the way I usually shop, it was more of a personal social experiment which is really teaching me something about were Australians are at and no doubt most westerners. I must say, I still try hard to select my look as I am sure I would have got more looks in a tutu or something outrageous but if I keep close to typical guy look then it seems I am getting away with a skirt without any drama.

Re: Social Experiment
I do think that most people today are so busy wrapped up in what their doing they just don't see what anybody is wearing, or for that matter don't care
Re: Social Experiment
Thanks for the report SkirtedRevolution,
Sounds like you're discovering the same thing we have all found: nobody cares too much what we wear, provided we look sort of close to normal (whatever that is). Given that you were not too outrageous in your choice of clothing I'd have been more surprised if you had had a reaction, though 16" sounds pretty brave for an early public experiment.
Have fun,
Ian.

Do not argue with idiots; they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Re: Social Experiment
That has been exactly my experience. If you are wearing an appropriate skirt in a masculine context, 90% won't notice and the 10% who do notice won't care a jot. It is a non-event. The worst that will happen - very occasionally - is that someone will ask you whether that is a skirt you are wearing and why you are wearing a skirt. If you tell them you like masculine-styled skirts because they are comfortable, that invariably satisfies their curiosity. A few years ago, a few friends saw me out and about in a skirt, boots, shirt and hat. They made fun of me not because of the skirt - but because of the "dog ears" style hat - and each wanted to try it on. The skirt wasn't commented on, but they thought the hat was hilarious (it was a bit silly)!
If we have an issue nowadays, it is not that men can't wear skirts - they can. Rather, the issue is that most men don't wear them, so you have to choose garments made for women.

Re: Social Experiment
Wow, SR, just one successful day being skirted and suddenly there's no stopping you! Parading round shopping centres trying to get noticed is definitely not the action of a man who is nervous about sporting a skirt in public.
Well done!
Well done!
Keep on skirting,
Alastair
