How Hot Is It?

Post by Uncle Al »

It's too bloody hot! About 3 hours ago, our indoor/outdoor thermometer
read 111.2 F and now - at 4:35 CDT - the temp is down to 105.5 F. So a
5.7 degree drop in temp is OK, I guess, but it's still to hot! The A/C can't
keep up - errrr - down

Uncle Al:

That's just too blamed hot! We had a stormy night up here in our area of North Dakota with towns just a little to the north of us getting up to 5 inches, now through next Tuesday we've got a heat warning with the index going to the 105 to 110 due to the heavy humidity. I don't envy you or want what we're dealing with either.

So i'm curious what kilt have you donned today? I'm in a Stillwater Thrifty Kilt with the McClaren tartan. My dear wife has sewn down the pleats and adjusted the length down to the 22 inches my short stature demands. LOL! Light and airy but nothing will mitigate the weather totally.

Welll heere's to a weather pattern that is more comfortable for us all! That is rain where it's needed and cool where that's needed and some warm sunshine to dry out the soggies.

Be well and stay cool if you can.

Today, I started out in a very light weight linen, mid-calf, A-Line skirt.
When we went out for lunch, I wore my Postal Blue Utilikilt. After getting
home, I switched over to a short skirt. To hot for the Kilt. Around home I
wear a skirt of some type most of the time. Loose and flowy fabric, in this
heat, is the best thing to do. As of 8:45 PM CDT, our temperature dropped
below 100 F. It's now 97 F but still hot.

Uncle Al,
I don't know how you do it, surviving in those temps! I've already had heat exhaustion several times, despite having approaches to dealing with the heat. While those approaches keep me from needing EMS they are also effective in keeping me from getting much done which is very frustrating.

I was out at the farm looking after my chickens the other day wearing a lightweight tank style dress. Still melting. Ron, the guy who works the farm came by and said that he was jealous that I had on such a nice light dress and wished that he could wear one too.

Hmmm... Perhaps another candidate for MIS?

Uncle Al,
Would you please send some your heat my way? It was a raging 62F at 2PM this afternoon in the San Francisco financial district where I work. And that is one of the warmer parts of town. It's even cooler in the western part of the city where I live. :blue: Too cold for outdoor skirts for a cold-blooded person like me. The current ocean temperature two miles west of where I live is 54F.

Stuart - I'd gladly send you some of this blasted heat :!: BUT ;) You've got to
reciprocate and send me your cooler temps and some rain :)

I have salt water canals on 3 sides of my home in the Florida Keys and no one wants to swim in them now, no matter how clear and clean the water is...no fish, no living creatures of any other kind can survive in 125 degree fahrenheit salt water and no one is swimming in it either. :(

We went on our 'Midsummer' annual archaeological society outing today. This involved about 60 of us visiting an old 12th Century ivy-clad privately owned castle ruin, from there to a beautiful 18th Century restored palladian mansion and picnicing in the grounds thereof, then on to a large restored 17th Century house occupied by a millionaire antique dealing bachelor, then on to an evening meal at a local hotel. It drizzled rain throughout, blew a half gale during our outdoor picnic, making it difficult to keep things on the table &c, and on our return journey the external temperature registered 13, then 12 degrees C..
July is the wettest month in Ireland and when it rains it is also cold, feeling more like November.

So, enjoy your sunshine, those of you who have it.

Enjoy what you have, my van is getting tranny work and I'm stuck at home with all 4 window A/C's on to keep it at 80f, it's 125f outside. I'd love to have 70 degree inside and drizzle rain outside. I'd go out and stand or sit in it for hours, jump in the nearest clean water and float for hours. That would be like nirvana to me. :D :D :D

It's not quite as miserable here as in Ireland, by the sound of it, but it's cold, dingy and rainy here in Eastern England. After a few years of very hot, dry summers, it looks like we're back to the more traditional "British Summer" of cold, horizontal rain for days at a time.

I'm going to a funeral on Wednesday and plan to wear my (informal) kilt. Could be a chilly one, though.

(and I know you don't wear kilts to funerals, just like guys don't wear skirts ever. I'm wearing it, and that's final. I'm also going to wear a tie with frogs all over it that my uncle bought me in honour of my username).

Good for you, Paul. That's the right attitude.
My daughter launched an anti-kilt campaign before her wedding, but I turned up in my unbifurcated Sunday-best, and no-one even thought of throwing me out. She looked so stunning that no-one noticed me by her side!
To tell the truth, I did get a special mention from the mayor who took the ceremony "how nice it was too see someone so proud of his origins." ha ha !

This was last week in Grenoble, France, where kilts are even rarer than skirts, though kilted weddings are not unkown in Britanny.

The sort of warm/hot rain that falls on Caribbean islands, or in S.Europe in high Summer is delightful in small doses, Skip, but the sort we get here, persistent & with zero Sun, accompanied by low temperatures is far from Nirvana, I can assure you. The North Atlantic depressions march ever Eastwards over us regardless of the time of year. Any high-pressure bubble that keeps them off for a little while is very welcome.

I don't know what sort of a selection of kilts you have, Paul, but I can't see any problem with wearing a sober outfit that includes a not-too-loud kilt at a funeral. c.f. 'Four Weddings &c'.
By the time our weather reaches Cambridge it's a shadow of its former self, hence your annual rainfall is less than half of ours. On the other hand we get less snow than you, although last year was probably an exception.

Lovely picture, Martin. As it happens I like that kilt pattern very much, and the light coloured jacket &c go well with it.

I see the Sun shines sometimes in Grenoble, too.

Paul, I'll second Tom's comment on a sober outfit with a not-too-loud kilt. Who said folks don't wear kits to funerals?

Martin -- that photograph of you and your daughter is just stunning! I cannot see, for the life of me, why she sould go on an anti-kilt campaign. Please pass along best wished for the happy couple.

On further research, it turns out that I was simply deluded. No idea how that one got into my head.

The only kilt I have currently is Black Watch, which is certainly not loud. One day, I'll get a kilt or two in the official Clan tartan (Robertson [the hunting tartans suit me vastly more than the 'red's]), but that is several hundred pounds (Sterling) in the future.

Martin, many congratulations to your daughter: stunning indeed. Your outfit is pretty fine too, with a good use of understated colour: very dignified father of the bride.
